It’s been commissioned for a third season but is on a four year hiatus as there will be a time jump and Platt is too young.
I know some people here are more enthusiastic about that show and I may be more cynical, but do we really expect that to happen? With the way Murphy likes to jump from one idea to the next so quickly? And with how Season 2 was a complete and total non-event?
Also, while that reasoning may be true, to me Platt honestly looks closer to 35 (presidential minimum age) than 18 at this point.September 24, 2020 at 10:24 am #1203731947
The plan for Ratched is four seasons, culminating with the story of Cuckoo’s Nest.
Ok so I kinda LOVE that movie so I’m hoping it just ends with them alluding to the start of the movie and screen goes black because that’s gonna be rough since the movie is perfection and to try to improve on that is impossibleSeptember 24, 2020 at 12:37 pm #1203732207

Well it’s been commissioned. Four years is a long time so who knows but I think it’s probably going to come back. I mean the third season is the final one.

Finished watching this and this was. A mixed bag for sure. The second half of the season was so much stronger than the first. The first 4 episodes were clunky and cringeworthy. While the final 4 episodes seemed to finally pick up the lace and move the plot along. The cast is mostly good. Paulson will always be great, she can do no wrong and this is a wel suited role for her, and I’m excited to see where she goes next season. Judy Davis was fantastic as Betsey and was oozing charisma. Briones was good playing the deeply troubled Hangrove. Witteock was particularly one note ge never had any emotion and never changed his facial expressions. Corey still was a waste because he can do much better and Sharon Stone was delicious and devilishly and I enjoyed he rumored than I thought I would. But for the first 4 episodes my favourite actor was Amanda Plummer. I adore Plummer shes Canadian so I’m obviously bias and shes acting royalty being Christopher Plummers daughter. She was my favourite for the first half of the season and I’m glad she got plenty of scenes and owned it whenever she was on screen. I thought that no one would be able to top her as my favourite but then…..Sophie Okendeo showed up and My Fucking God did she fucking deliver. Her first scene should be studied about how to properly introduce a new character because that was one hell of an opening scene she had changing personas and losing her mind. She was a feral wolf going for the kill and tearing it apart. She was given a delicious piece of acting meat to chew on and she ate every morsel up. And I dont think it’s a coincidence that as soon as she became a player in the show the quality of the series went way up and that laid solely on Okendeo. She needs to win every Emmy, Oscar, Tony and Grammy for the award. Yes she deserves awards she can’t even qualify for because she was that fucking riveting and whenever shes on screen you pay attention to no one else because you dont want to miss a moment of this tour de force of a master class performance. She in my honest opinion delivered one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen regardless of it being on TV, Film or the stage. She was the definition of iconic and I’ll never forget the brilliance she brought. I hope she gets recognized by awards bodies because it would be a crime if shes ignored. Honestly I’d watch a show just about her character and know it would be so much better then this mixed bag. I cannot wait to see what Sophie does because I need her to fuck me up some more by continuing to deliver the way she did, I’m beyond excited for her alone for next season. Theres nothing else to say about her except once again I’m just in awe of what she accomplished in a few episodes, she is a true thespian and I cant remember the last time I was this moved by someone’s performance. There are always good and great performances every year whether it be TV or film but she went down to the depths of hell and came soaring right back up into the heavens. She was ethereal!September 24, 2020 at 11:31 pm #1203733166
Finished. And I remain that it’s a very watchable, entertaining series that still has a lot of potential. The finale was a bit messy and rushed, but I think it set up what can be a decent S2. Sarah Paulson and Cynthia Nixon were the unquestionable standouts, in my opinion. That scene in ep. 7… whew. Judy Davis was also great throughout! I liked Okendeo, but I am not thaaat hyped about her performance like others here are.

Even though Ryan Murphy said that I don’t think it’s actually going to happen. No one is caring about the show right now let alone four years later.September 25, 2020 at 6:20 am #1203733440
Murphy said they’re going to “take a couple of years off” not four lol
My mistake but still the point stands it’s on a hiatus!

I had no intention of watching this but the Okonedo hype has me intrigued. She’s a great actress and I want to see if the raves are justified.

Finished! I echo Luca’s comments. After the opener (which was a bit of a let down tbh) the show gets better and better and more watchable and exciting. The finale was ironically a bit of letdown compared to the rest of the season but still much better than the opener.
The standouts for me were Paulson, Nixon and Okonedo and those are the ones I am rooting for to get Emmy nods. At the moment I’m even rooting for Nixon and Okonedo for the win! All three were phenomenal and elevated every scene they were in but I wouldn’t mind a Judy Davis nomination as well.
The writing was the weak point of the show but it would be very deserving of a Directing nomination for Jessica Yu for “Got No Strings”. That episode was the standout of the season for me both in directing and performance.
I’d give the show a 6.5/10. It was quite enjoyable and watchable and what I liked a lot was how it wasn’t trying to take itself seriously and make a fool of itself (like Perry Mason). Cynthia Nixon deserves to sweep (although my opinion may change depending on the performances of the supporting ladies in The Crown and The Handmaid’s Tale when they return).

I finished this and the last two episodes were classic Ryan Murphy get-rid-of-all-plotlines-and-characters-because-I-don’t-know-what-to-do-with-them bad. Like so so so much wasted potential. Why Sharon Stone ever agreed to play that character is beyond me.
