Since more than half of the season 1 thread is devoted to season 2, I thought we should make a season 2 thread so:

Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.

I m surprised by the amount of people on this site that are invested in this show. I watched the first two episodes of season 1, decided it was fun trash and stopped, and watched one awful episode of season 2 with my friend. I might decide to catch up.

This is the guiltiest of my guilty pleasures, I feel like I’ve eaten a tub of ice cream after every episode… can’t stop tho. I enjoyed season one more so far though. Just keep the shirtless KJ Apa scenes coming pls.

The last episode’s visuals were not the most consistently showy, but those shots of Betty at the bus stop were among the most conspicuous images of the series. This show is coming for an ASC nomination, assuming that they actually submit it unlike at the Emmys. The ASC actually awarded Smallville twice and also nominated Nikita, so they are not biased against the CW like the Emmys.

I thought that after the buzz from the first season and everyone being a bit more comfortable, the show would come back better this year, but nope, this is very much still a guilty pleasure and not exactly what I would call good. The last episode had me laughing out loud at how bad it was—the worst of the series so far. The dialogue and plotting are variably just bad. I will say though that Archie punching the ice in the first season finale was one of the television scenes of the year. I saw a lot of potential in KJ Apa during the first season. The second season has really tested him with emotional material and it turns out that he is not quite up to the challenge.

Cole Sprouse really should have negotiated second billing. I swear that they changed the Toni actress in the last episode, but IMDb tells me otherwise. I have no idea why they recast the Reggie character instead of just replacing him with a new character with a new name. This new Reggie is so different too, in terms of character, as well as performance.

Look for me in the diner in the November 29th episode and also outside the student lounge in the December 6th episode! The set is cool because all of the interiors are in the same warehouse. My favourite part is how Betty and Archie’s rooms are across from each other so that they can do the through-the-window shots.

Didn’t really enjoy last episode. Boring and weirdly edited.

This show is such a mess, but works pretty great as a guilty pleasure.

I agree that season 1 had some great moments (Cheryl in white at Jason’s funeral, drowning Cheryl) and I think that female part of the cast is much better (with Madelaine Petsch as MVP).

Unfortunately, season 2 has been a disappointment so far and I’m pretty sure writers cannot handle 22 episodes a year, but we’ll see.

Oh, and I FUCKING HATE the new Reggie – new actor is making him a giant jerk.

The show has gone downhill. Their gay creator & exec producer is bringing a lot of cringe with his writing. And please, don’t start commenting on referring to him as gay.

I think the fuck I will comment on it. What does that have to do with ANYTHING relating to the show’s content and quality? You can dislike a show without resorting to unnecessary personal attacks.

It’s not a personal attack. It’s just that affects the show. He keeps bringing in cringy sexual tension in the show which is ridiculous.

I don’t even watch this show, but what a gross comment. Imagine if I was a Scandal viewer and was like “ugh, their BLACK creator keeps bringing up race into this show.” Or if I was a Good Girls Revolt viewer and was like “ugh, their FEMALE creator sure does like to write about gender.”

You can criticize somebody’s writing that you find terrible without bringing race/gender/sexual orientation into it. And you can criticize how creators handle issues of race/gender/sexual orientation, even if they belong to said group. But the tone of this + your other comment feels less like substantive show/character criticism and more like thinly veiled homophobia.

I know and you’re right, and Ik my comment was cheesy from the start, but I just felt the need to clarify. I apologise to everyone.

I’ve binged the series in a few days and it is certainly a guilty pleasure I will continue tuning in for. I agree that Season 1 was better, but I’m hoping they will wrap up the Black Hood plot line soon and move into a different story-line. The issue I have most with this show is character trait inconsistency. Also, I know its little, but the fact that all these characters are driving without licenses and none of the parents care or notice is annoying.

Who do you think the Black Hood is? I think its going to be Betty’s long-lost brother…

The last few episodes were boring and the Black Hood reveal was a letdown, assuming that it was not a fake-out.  I thought that it was, but they did not hint at it.

Not technically for Riverdale, but they cast the lead of the Sabrina Netflix spinoff:

    Kiernan Shipka will play Sabrina.

Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.

Archie being enlisted by the FBI is among the stupidest things that this show has ever done and that is really saying something.
