The new season starts 1/8 @ 9/8C on Showtime.

As reported in other posts, the season premiere has leaked.

Loving James Wolk’s role so far. I think that might be the only storyline revealed so far from the premiere. That and Ian’s continual quest to join the military. Solid episode. Emmy Rossum is still kicking butt. What’d everyone else think?

Same situations different stetting (summer time!) is what I got from the season opener. This ensemble is still top notch and Emmy Rossum is flawless in this against type role. James Wolk is so a “Steve-bot” lol. Didn’t dislike Justin Chatwin like some (those two had chemistry!), so I hope this Steve/Fiona/James Wolk’s character triangle lives up to the scenario I have in my head.

I am starting to wonder if Showtime missed an opportunity to submit this show as a comedy series as opposed to drama. Sure it has some heartbreaking/dark dramatic moments, but it is Weeds funny if that makes sense.

Oh well, this looks like it will be a kickass season!

This show provided me with a lot of laughs, sometimes over some silly moments. To me, it is no doubt more of a comedy than drama. If the show had been under a 30-minutes-per-episode format, it would have been submitted as a comedy series. It’s too bad there’s no turning back once the very hilarious Joan Cusack got nominated as a guest actress in a drama series.

If the show had competed in comedy categories, I can see Emmy Rossum being a serious contender, and like other Showtime ladies, could have been under fire for not being funny. While she has been amazing in this show, her role is the least funny of all.

Oh Shameless, how you have been sorely missed.

This is exactly what I have been missing. Everything and everyone was perfect. In fact, I think that this is one of the best episodes so far. Every storyline worked together while not being completely predictable, and it set up the season well enough. All in all, as an avid fan of this show, I was quite satisfied with the premiere

Yeah, I watched the season 2 premiere. I’m so glad the show is back. One of my favorites from last year. The premiere was solid. It wasn’t spectacular, but it got me very excited for the rest of the season.

I think the show is hilarious but, IMO, the dramatic moments are far more compelling (like the 2 episodes when their mom came home). I’m not quite sure the show would have been successful in comedy anyway. I can see why Showtime put the show in the drama categories. Besides Ugly Betty (for that one year) and Desperate Housewives (for that one), when was the last time an hour long comedy did well in comedy categories?

The only one I can think of is ‘Ally McBeal’ winning over ‘Friends’ (Season 5 AKA ‘The One Season When Monica and Chandler Rocked’.

Agreed. Rossum has the least “funny” role in the series and is definitely the one who deserves an Emmy.

It may be worth them trying the Comedy route, however, as Macy’s Frank is far more comedic than dramatic – and surely that’s where they bank on getting major category Emmy love, aside from Cusack – that may be worth a shot.

Really glad the show is back with such a satisfying start to the season. Definitely one of my favorites of last year.

Didn’t know that the premiere leaked – can’t wait to watch!  I had a lot of fun watching this show last season, even though it often left me puzzled.

I agree with the others, I thought the season premeire was solid. It was fun to see what everybody has been up to. I can`t wait to see what happens with all the characters this season. My favorite characters are still Lip and Frank. Fiona has the most important role on the show, but those two entertain me the most.

Great to have the Gallaghers back! It was good having the gang around again, and no one’s missed a beat since last season. Emmy Rossum is wonderful and cements the entire show. Maybe they’ll tone down Frank some this season, maybe not. The Liam storyline went a bit overboard, but I did like seeing the family rally to get him back. There’s still little to no point of Joan Cusack’s character here, so naturally she would be the one who ended up with the Emmy nomination last year. They’ve set up a lot for the upcoming season to look forward to. I do want to see what they do with Eddie’s death, Kash leaving, and the riff that settles in between Ian and Lip. And James Wolk! I was hoping that he would be Fiona’s main match this season, but it looks like they’re going to have Fiona be whorey all season long until the awful Justin Chatwin comes back. Oh well. Looking forward to the new season. Loved the pot bonfire at the end!

The first episode was great and they better let James Wolk be here for the whole season….or at least half of it…

I thought the premiere was fairly typical of this show.  Decent enough but not great.  Tries to hard to be deep at times and tries to hard to be edgy and funny at times.  Typically falls short in the end.  The acting can be a little heavy handed but I do enjoy the nudity.
