The mini series staring Sanaa Lathan aired on Fox on Wednesday. I enjoyed the first episode.March 24, 2017 at 7:40 pm #1202045654
I enjoyed the pilot. Sanaa Lathan was great and should be a contender. Helen Hunt will also be a contender. The standout for me though was Aisha Hinds, who is having quite the breakout year and is also on Underground as Harriet Tubman. Very strong start. I loved some of the diologue and the show was very timely. My grade: B-March 24, 2017 at 7:50 pm #1202045658
Aisha hinds is stellar. She deserves to win the Emmy. She will be a star. She is one of the best actresses on TV right now.March 29, 2017 at 6:04 pm #1202050155
I wish more people were talking about this. Sanaa Lathn and Aisha Hinds are so good and Emmy worthy in this. I just watched the first episode and even though it is flawed some of the performances are phenomenal. I rewatched the first episode and I was once again moved to tears by the great scene in the church with Aisha Hinds. After rewatching it, Clare-Hope Ashitey was also great. I did not notice her great performance the first time, but she really stood out the second time around. I’m starting the second episode now.March 29, 2017 at 7:02 pm #1202050187
The scond episode was a HUGE step up from the first. Great performances from Lathan and Hinds. Hinds is so amazing. She is destined to be a huge star. That scene on the steps was so great. She was SOOOO great. Helen Hunt was also very good. As was Richard Dreyfus with his little screentime. My grade: B+April 18, 2017 at 11:05 pm #1202070450
Hour four was the best episode even though there were some real cheesy moments and diologue. I love the plot they added about the schools. That helped this episode to be a lot better. Mrs. Campbell actress was great. Not enough Aisha Hinds. My grade: B+April 19, 2017 at 1:02 pm #1202071069
I’m glad someone else watching this show. It’s good but it frustrates me. Yes, the performances are very good. Sanaa Lathan should be a bigger star by now and Aisha Hinds has always been excellent in everything I’ve seen her in. But as you mentioned, the writing leaves something to be desired. The dialogue and the situations are a bit too contrived at times. Can a female law enforcement officer be something other than a hot mess? Unfortunately, those contrivances leave it a few steps of being something special. But it does have some good reasons to watch in the performances.April 19, 2017 at 6:06 pm #1202071253
Tonight’s episode was easily the best yet. I was a little annoyed that the Campbell kid was writing better than most literary majors can but it was to show a point and it was pretty good. Hinds gave another astonishing performance this week. This would be a killer tape. Claire Hope Ashitey was also very good. As was Helen Hunt. Richard Dreyfus’s character is a bit to cartoonish but whatever. Lathan gave a great performance despite how cliche her character is. Stephen James was miscast and he is way to wooden. FYI: The Jonathan Demme-directed episode airs tonight. 🙁April 26, 2017 at 4:44 pm #1202077175
This show got a major boost in chances because of the tragic death of Jonathan Demme. I’m definitely expecting a posthumous directing nomination. Depending on how the ratings for tonight’s episode are, I might predict more nominations.April 26, 2017 at 6:07 pm #1202077212
I’m fairly confident Jonathan Demme will get nominated. This episode was fairly good. And there was a huge riot scene that will help his chances. Aisha Hinds once again slays and needs an Emmy nomination.
My grade: B+
