I was wondering what you guys felt on this situation. Every year, there are horrid nominees, and it seems like voters are not watching TV, or only looking at the same channels/streaming services for nominees.

    What do you guys think?

This year supporting actor/actress is way more interesting thand lead actor/actress, so I don’t understand this question.

They should get rid of all of the limited series categories and add them on drama or comedy categories.

All Limited Series and Movie categories should be retired. There has only ever been up to three strong limited series/films in a given year. Even in strong years for Limited Series, there is wasted space like Genius season one. Outstanding TV Movie has existed for four ceremonies now, and for two of them, an episode of a series won.

Rename the Comedy categories to Half-Hour; rename the Drama categories to One-Hour. Have the limited series, including anthology series that commit category fraud as TV films, compete in these categories. They already do this for many of the Creative Arts categories. William H. Macy has been nominated in Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Shameless for his fifth year now, and I’ve sometimes laughed more watching The Handmaid’s Tale.

Retire Variety Special (Live) and Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). Have variety special and TV films compete together under a new category, Outstanding Television Special, limiting them from 15 slots to five. Academy members are clearly not regular viewers of variety specials and are just name-checking their favorite people. Limiting the number of slots can keep those kind of specials out. Also, if there was no award-worthy TV film in a particular year (which happens quite often), bad ones wouldn’t have to be nominated to fill up spots.

The Primetime Emmys has over one hundred categories, many of them for poor programming or programming the Academy doesn’t watch. Drastic reform is needed, not just for Limited Series and Movies, but for all the categories (but I’m not going to get into that now, since that’s beyond the scope of this thread and I’m tired).

Plain and simple no. The desire to reduce acting categories have resulted in Saturday Night Live taking up spaces in the Supporting and Guest acting categories. If the pickings are slim, then reduce the nominees from six to either four or three.

    Next case

I say a hard no to this. I think no should be the only sensible option so I am happy to see it winning this poll in such a landslide.

For your Goldderby Film Awards consideration: Isle of Dogs for every category, especially Music Score for Alexandre Desplat!

Horrid nominees my ass. Does anyone really think Jesse Plemons (Fargo and USS Callister), Courtney B. Vance, Frances McDormand. David Oyelowo, Frances McDormand, Sarah Paulson (for O.J. especially), Kirsten Dunst, Bokeem Woodbine, or any of the Big Little Lies and The Night Of actors were undeserved? This poll is insane and totally unnecessary.

I would rather see a poll asking about all limited categories. It has turned into a drama 2.0 category with TV movie being drama 3.0.

Seems like you misread, or overlooked. Ive stated SUPPORTING.
Not all nominees were bad, but there is always nominees that are just on the category due to their program. Hence, the Versace story. Horrid nominees (besides lead actor). Last year, the OJ Story nominees were horrid.

There’s also more than 2 options.

They actually tried to do this about five years ago or so. They announced they would be eliminated but then there was a big backlash and they reinstated them.

Why? They nominate what is on offer, and there is nothing wrong with the nominees this year. Not every year will have an Olive Kitteridge and Big Little Lies.

Godless is superb television to many people, whether you agree or not. Hence its many nominations. So are the other nominees.

I don’t see anyone complaining about Ryan Murphy’s annual melodramatic fluff hogging the Miniseries categories. How about we put a limit on that?!?!

Categories cannot be chopped and changed just because for one year, you did not enjoy or like what was on offer on television. Television and films have demographics. Different people like and watch different things.

Combine Limited Series and TV Movie and have 7 nominees like Comedy and Drama. Black Mirror can then enter all of it’s episodes.

I remembered that you only mentioned Supporting now. Brown, Woodbine, Plemons, Thewlis, Dern, Woodley, Daniels, Wittrock, Hoffman, Davis, Camp, Skarsgard, Olivia Williams, Schwimmer, Travolta, Laurie, and Michael Kenneth Williams were all great and deserving nominees then to varying degrees in my opinion. Yes, even Travolta. Getting rid of any of the main TV Movie and Limited categories is clearly absurd and would embarrass the Emmys if it did? Sorry for having misstated by including Lead performances in my original comment.
