    Michael Schneider of Variety has written in an op-ed piece where he thinks the Emmys should have an Outstanding Long-Running Program that would honor shows like Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for being on the air as long as they have. Do you think this is a good idea?

    I personally vote no on this because he’s arguing the same reasons people tried and failed to get a Best Popular Film category created at the Oscars: such an award, in his eyes, would honor shows with massive fanbases and boost the Emmys ratings. I personally think that’s bullcrap.

    Let’s debate this.

    Absolutely not. I’m all in for panels of juries tho. With the members being selected one year before the award ceremony so that the juries can be aware they will have a full whole year to watch as many as tv as possible.

    It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

    What’s the point. Both Grey’s and SVU have already been rewarded plenty, no need for more just because they are old.

    FYC:

    "Succession" and "Severance" in all Drama categories;
    "Ted Lasso" and "The Great" in all Comedy categories;
    "Station Eleven" and "The White Lotus" in all Limited categories + Ethan Hawke for "Moon Knight".

    Hell no shows running that long should’ve ended years ago anyways the quality isn’t there.

    This would be like how The Simpsons is nominated for Animated Program every year purely by virtue of having been on for 32 seasons.

    That’s a really bad take by that writer. No reason to give awards to a show simply for being on a long time. If they are deserving, they can get nominated. Usually by the time they get up there in years, they are not awards worthy.

    IMO, if they were truly outstanding long-running programs they’d still be getting nominated.

    There are a lot of “outstanding” shows out there, not even long running ones, that don’t get nominated so I don’t get the argument here…

    I can understand a special achievement award like that Governor’s Award for one of these shows a year. But not a whole category with Grey’s Anatony or SVU now nominated here each year just because they’ve been on the air forever.

    And The Simpsons shouldn’t be considered for this since they have plenty of Emmys and actual program wins.

    I will say, one show that would be deserving of something like this is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Maybe they’ve gotten a couple of nods here and there, but awards shows have screwed this show over for more than a decade now.

    I’m sorry but that show is a vile, toxic, mean-spirited mess that should’ve been canceled a long time ago. I hate shows that say “these are bad people, but you’re supposed to love them because they’re bad people.” I’m sorry, but what kind of message is that?! Why must we root for toxic people?! I sure as hell don’t!!!!

    IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY has definitely been screwed over far too much in the last 15 years. It may be a bit much but the level of consistency that McElhenney and the rest have given us from that show is honestly impressive in my book.

    So yeah, I disagree about the Long-running category but I just wanted to step up to join the defending of ALWAYS SUNNY.

    This article is a hot mess.

    “Of course, it’s nothing new that Emmy voters tire of a series“

    Emmy voters got SO tired of Schitt’s Creek and Fleabag in their later seasons didn’t they?!?!🤷🏼‍♂️

    Like blockbusters, the award is money. The cast and creatives of NCIS and Greys are making far more cash then say the cast of Succession or Ozark.

    Saturday Night Live cleans up every year, The Simpsons traditionally makes its annual showing (and Bob’s Burgers now, too, I suppose), Curb Your Enthusiasm makes a light dent every time they have a new season, all those goddamn late night shows…this already happens.
