To fill out the ballot of 8?November 12, 2015 at 2:30 pm #364898
If they’re general, sure, why not. The thing is that writing and directing on TV is episodic instead of the whole season. Also, doesn’t there need to be two for each? One for series and another for limited series/movies? There are already 11 TV categories. Though at the same time it could equal with the pictures categories.November 12, 2015 at 2:54 pm #364899
I think they should. Directors/Writers should be awarded but they will probably make really laughably embarrassing choices. But that might be the fun of it too.
FYC: Ready Player One. Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Original Score, Production Design, Director and BEST PICTURE (make it happen Oscars!!)November 12, 2015 at 8:47 pm #364900
I think they should.November 12, 2015 at 9:35 pm #364901
The fact that there are no directing/writing categories tells me the HFPA do not actually watch these shows but they just vote based on who they like the most and popularityNovember 13, 2015 at 2:00 am #364902
There’s a potential six writing/directing categories that could be added in comedy/musical, drama, and limited series/made for television film. I doubt they would ever want to add that many categories, and sadly it’s not like they take the television categories all that seriously. If they did, they would divide up the supporting catch-all categories better than what they currently do. The concept is worthy, but the execution is another matter.November 13, 2015 at 8:49 am #364903
I mean I would rather them break up their weird catch-all supporting categories first (mostly because they are impossible to predict lol)November 13, 2015 at 10:00 am #364904
GG mainly exists for film awards and acts as Oscar precursor. TV awards are just accessory anyway.
But Critics Choice Awards need to add writng and directing categories soon. And if they worry about going over the time limit, they can present these categories or guest acting/longform supporting ones before the real ceremony starts.November 13, 2015 at 10:17 am #364905
No. They don’t have time to add more categories.November 13, 2015 at 11:19 am #364906
No. Leave the prestige to the Emmys, Directors/Writers guilds.November 13, 2015 at 4:54 pm #364907
What 24Emmy and mikeboy898 said! This clocks at 3 hours and there’s already 20+ of these things being handed out. There’s no need for it. They don’t check for TV like they do films, case and points the mash up supporting categories and the seating arrangements.November 13, 2015 at 5:25 pm #364908
Yes. I think they should. But I don’t see the need for 8 categories. I’d like to see some combined categories such as
Writing for a TV Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie
Directing for a TV Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie
Writing for a Motion Picture—Drama
Directing for a Motion Picture-Drama
Writing for a Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy
Directing for a Motion Picture-Musical or ComedyNovember 13, 2015 at 9:50 pm #364909
Where’s the star power? Nowhere.November 14, 2015 at 1:24 am #364910
They could nominate Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Ricky Gervais, Will Forte and
Louis C.K. for writing and for directing without repeating anyone, they
could do Robin Wright, Don Cheadle, William H. Macy, Lena Dunham and
"I don't even believe in god, but I'm going to thank her tonight."
