Synopsis:
Written by and starring Edinburgh Comedy Award-winning comedian, writer and actor Rose Matafeo, `Starstruck’ follows the life of Jessie, a millennial who lives in East London. She juggles between her two jobs in order to afford the overpriced apartment that she shares with her best friend, Kate. On New Year’s eve, she hooks up with Tom, and she soon discovers that he is a famous film star. Their worlds could not be more different, yet fate keeps bringing them together under the most extraordinary circumstances.
The show arrived on HBO Max in my country last week and it’s probably a good idea to create a thread for it.

It’s a lot of fun and the cast has great chemistry, hoping it continue this great.‘stop ruining my cool moment with the window’ was hilarious, Matafeo is really good.

I love the slice of life aesthetics. It kinda reminds of Fleabag in that aspect.

August 2, 2021 at 11:52 am #1204377326I wasn’t expecting this show to be this good. It’s cute and natural, which I loved, and it’s also genuinely funny. It reminded me a lot of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Crashing, which I recommend to everyone around here, it’s great. Matafeo is very good and Patel was ok, both had an amazing chemistry. Emma Sidi is such a revelation, she was hilarious! Minnie Driver stole the whole second episode, very funny performance and with a great guest role. Can’t wait for Season 2!

What a surprise.
For romcom suckers like me, you will eat this up in a day.
Funny, well written, fast paced, well acted, great chemistry between the cast.
Come soon season 2.August 6, 2021 at 1:45 pm #1204384601Just binged this really quickly. A sweet and funny show with a good ensemble, but Matafeo is the star and she brings the whole thing to life.

March 8, 2022 at 10:25 am #1204836695I liked season one but season two I LOVED. It doesn’t feel like the response to it over here has been as positive as the first but I thought this season was a suitable follow up and I liked that it wasn’t just a re-hash of the first’s tone. As with almost every comedy this season you could tell there were Covid limitations in place but I honestly thought it made the show more grounded in the best of ways. It allowed Matafeo and the writers to really focus on the relationship at the centre of the show in a really dynamic way during three hours of television.
Minnie Driver is now closing in on Molly Shannon (The White Lotus) and Harriet Walter (Ted Lasso) for the frontrunner position in comedy guest actress in my personal awards. She may not have as much screen time as either of them did on their shows but she just makes the most out of so little words on paper.

I agree about this. I couldn’t be less interested in Jessie’s friend and his fiancee’s sub-plot.
