I’m pretty sure Westworld costs way more than Succession, that’s probably why its cast earn less than Succession‘s.

Regardless of the ratings, Succession is HBO’s best show (and best chance at a series emmy moving forward), and it’s the actors that make that happen. HBO has the money to spend, and if higher cast salary will help to maintain season 2 quality, then by all means they should spend it.

L to the OG has officially been released. I’m listening to it on Spotify as I post this. The only thing keeping it from being perfect is that it excludes the line “My boy Squiggle cooked up this beat for me”.

Doesn’t matter that Succession is a drama, this is the funniest (and whitest) thing from this Emmy cycle.

Edit: Nicholas Britell also released an instrumental only version, allowing people to enjoy the genuinely good beat without the hilariously cringeworthy lyrics.

I forgot about this as an original song!  “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” is quaking in its boots.  I daresay that releasing this now will do more in terms of Emmy campaigning than any interview or event could have.

I just looked at the previous nominees of the category and it’s nothing like the equivalent Oscar category. Television is in need of original songs.

Is any Oscar-nominated song on the same level as “L To The OG” though? I think not.

Surprisingly, Disney+’s High School Musical series has a song named Wondering that is just so beautiful. I highly recommend everyone to listen it. It’s both on Spotify and Youtube. I would never guess a show like that can have such a great song. Also The Eddy has various great songs too. My favorites are Kiss Me in the Morning and Snow.

It’s still baffling that despite all of the fantastic songs out put from Glee, Nashville & Empire over the years that all three shows have received a grand total of 3 nominations between them (one-a-piece). Nashville’s the only one where they’re sole song nomination is arguably they’re best track (“Nothing In This World Will Ever Break My Again”).

This year is surprisingly good for original songs in TV. “L to the OG” (Succession), “On a Roll” (Black Mirror), “All for Us” (Euphoria), “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” (Witcher), “Eat Shit Bob (Last Week Tonight) & “Misbehaving” (Righteous Gemstones) are all outstanding pieces of music in their own right in addition to being used astonishingly well in their respective shows.

Then there’s also multiple tracks from Big Mouth, High School Musical & John Mulaney’s Sack Lunch Bunch that would also make great nominees.

And This Is Us has that Blade Stadnik song, “Memorized”. He sang it in the premiere and the finale and it surprisingly went top 20 on itunes upon release last September.

Introduced my Dad to the series and finished rewatching it with him yesterday. Season 2 is just as amazing as I remember it to be. Either Cox or Strong have to win. Those two are absolutely magnificent, and either one taking the trophy would make me so happy.

Snook also has my vote this year. When I first watched the second season, I thought of her as a lead, but now that I’ve gone back in after seeing her definitive category placement and knowing how the season goes, I definitely get why she’s going supporting, and I think it’s the right choice. She’s the show’s tertiary protagonist. More prominent than Tom and Roman, but the series is still more focused on Logan and Kendall. If she gets nominated, which I think she will, then I believe Snook might get pushed up to lead for the third season, since she’ll have established herself with the Emmys by then, and she likely won’t have as much competition to deal with.

Culkin and especially Macfadyen were also excellent and should definitely make the cut. Interestingly, while the five of the main characters (Greg and Connor are definitely more secondary to the central figures of the show) have other tapes that they can definitely choose from, the finale could actually be a strong tape for all of them, as they each get a decent amount of screentime, showy material, and get to end the season moving in very exciting directions. On the topic of the finale, it should definitely win writing. Term Haven is also great, but that last episode really managed to perfectly wrap this season up, and it has to be rewarded.

Still love this show, and can’t wait for it to come back.

Considering Succession films across Europe and North America I am assuming the show won’t return until early 2021 at the earliest.

FYC: All things The Crown, Hacks and I May Destroy You (and Hannah Waddingham and Julianne Nicholson whilst you're at it)!!
