This is gonna get so many Emmy nominations next year! Get ready, bitches!

I can’t decide if I love or hate Shiv right now. Sarah Snook really did THAT tonight!

Two episodes behind, I think I said it once, but yeah, it’s the type of a show that awards and critics needed and wanted. Something that will fill the void after Mad Men, The Amaricans and GOT etc. Something that gives the crowd everything: memes and gifs and think pieces and has this “prestigue” vibe.

I wouldn’t say it’s my fave show at the moment, far from it. But yeah, I will be VERY surprised, shocked even, if it won’t be big in nominations next year. Pretty much every member of this fantastic cast deserves a nom. Especially Matthew Macfadyen.

But what crowd? Except for critics and journalists barely anyone is talking about this show. The numbers on social media are still really low. I enjoy the show so I’m not hating on it but I think there is a false idea of its popularity.

Well now we know what Sarah Snook’s submission is. She was absolutely fantastic in this episode and would be deserving of nominations in either supporting or lead. Her scene with Kira in particular was entrancing.

This episode was a series highlight. Roman’s subplot was hilarious and the main drama gripping. Tom is surely doomed, but Greg and Kendall are definitely under threat especially with the unpredictability of the writing.

When Kieran Culkin was on Seth Meyers last week Seth pointed out that at the Emmys everyone was swarming to the Succession cast. Not that it’s a lot to go off of but there seems to be some anecdotal proof of all this buzz

Oh, for sure, but that’s the thing, I certainly noticed a bit of “industry hype” for this show. That hype doesn’t necessary give you ratings, but awards? Absolutely.

The idea of its popularity is more within the industry than the masses I feel.

The industry that failed to nominate a single actor from the show in a particularly weak year for drama. Don’t get me wrong though I definitely see an increase in nominations next year.

Or give an emmy to Adam McKay over Jason Bateman.

And that’s exactly what we are talking about here.
It’s not like we haven’t seen plenty of shows that flourished in terms of hype and recognition at the award shows in s.2, while s.1 was mostly ignored by the same industry (for eg. Fleabag).

But even that is not the case with Succession, since the show already won little something for s.1.

I know but I’m not expecting it to dominate in terms of wins in the way Fleabag did. I expect it to maintain series, directing and maybe get multiple writing nominations. In terms of acting I see one of Cox/Strong making it, and one of Culkin/Macfayden (probably Culkin), and possibly Snook under the 2% rule if she goes supporting.

Side note: this show is funnier than Fleabag.

I am already sweating thinking about the fact that everyone deserving of a nomination won’t get one, but I do hope at the very least we see nominations for Cox, Strong, Snook and Culkin. Last night was excellence as usual and the finale looks like it will be absolutely brutal. I cannot believe this was written and shot months ago and yet speaks on multiple levels to current events. The timing of a season-ending storyline centered on whistleblowing and congressional hearings is just crazy. Speaking to the popularity of the show, I would say that I have a good number of friends who watch the show (and all who do are utterly obsessed), and those who don’t watch are well aware of it at least. And I have read various tidbits like the one earlier in this thread about “Succession” being hugely popular within the industry. My fingers and toes are crossed going into this awards season because there is not a show more deserving of love right now.

“DC” was fantastic, probably the best-written episode of the season so far. Looks like the season will end on a high note next week. This show deserves all the nominations next year.

9/9. Not a single dud this season. I say this every week, this should be winning Drama Series at the next Emmys. This could’ve been such a perfect episode for Matthew Macfadyen had he not disappeared after the first half. It’s depressing that the next one is the final one. I hope it delivers, i’m sure it will.
