Season three will consist of eight episodes, confirmed by Cox in a recent interview.

I’ve heard that Barry won’t start filming until next year, so maybe the same applies to Succession.

One of the best things about the show is the changing of setting every episode, as well as the international episodes they do (the best episode of the season set on a yacht moored off a Croatian island for example). Covid-19 will inevitably affect this, but hopefully not too drastically.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

This year’s fall awards will be heavily affected, even next year’s Emmys.

I agree about this year’s fall awards (I think they’ll just be dominated by Perry Mason, The Crown, Ozark and Ratched on the Drama side and Schitt’s Creek and Dead to Me on the Comedy side).

I can see something like Succession or The Morning Show making Emmy eligibility because it’s already written, can be filmed under social distancing guidelines and won’t take long to film. I can’t see Killing Eve or The Handmaid’s Tale returning.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

I hope that they don’t rush this and reduce the episode count. I’d rather they take their time and make it as good as possible than try to make eligibility.

Stumbled upon this. It’s the most bizarre yet funniest thing I have seen all year.

TV Guide (Jun 15) – Everything We Know About Succession Season 3 on HBO

I guess they could include Covid-19 as a storyline and finish it on time to compete at the winter awards or at least for it to air by May?

Jeremy Strong: I have lobbied hard to set [“Succession”] very squarely in this [pandemic] moment that we’re in. There’s [nearly 21 million] people unemployed in America, and I just read that there’s an $800 takeaway sushi box at Masa. And that is something certainly that speaks right to the core of the show that I’m working on. I would think that the writers have to write from this place that we’re in. Surely, it’s the stuff of great and real drama.

    FYC:
Tobias Menzies, The Crown | J. Smith-Cameron, Succession
Christine Baranski, The Good Fight | Matthew Macfadyen, Succession

I hope this means they can get this on air by the Spring.

Strong mentioned in an actor’s roundtable interview that they’re likely incorporating COVID-19 into the storyline. Kidman mentioned wanting to do this with BLL3 too.

Edit: Ah I see on the last page someone beat me to this.

If wishing made it so Jeremy…

Jeremy Strong (back in June): I have lobbied hard to set [“Succession”] very squarely in this [pandemic] moment that we’re in. Surely, it’s the stuff of great and real drama.

Sarah Snook (earlier this week): I think [show creator] Jesse [Armstrong] wants to be delicate about it and just classy. I think it’s a thing that everybody’s aware of, and audiences are really intuitive these days. Even just seeing a mask in the background of something or hand sanitizer, those things that have become part of our daily lives, those things maybe, but nothing that is so overt that is going to really tackle it head on, because that’s not the show. We want to see the Roys doing the thing that they’ve been doing that we love, not pivoting towards a pandemic story.
