I’d say definitely based on Jesus Christ Superstar’s recent nomination haul, and this is a much more highly acclaimed production than that was.

They’ll fair a lot better at the Emmys than they would’ve at the Oscars, and they won’t have to resort to category fraud to get the performances nominated.

I would think that the program is in contention but the performances aren’t really – they are theatrical performances not television performances. Would be bizarre to see them nominated for Emmys.

With things the way they are, voters might have to hunt for contenders. I’m not real confident we’ll have a normal sized TV slate by the end of next May.
It would be easy to just pack a ballot with the likes of Queen Soo.

Or the Drama nominees will just be This is Us, The Crown and The Handmaid’s Tale keeping the seat warm for Ozark and Succession to return.

FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.

FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIR

I honestly think this may be the reason why the rules for nomination numbers changed. They saw what the landscape would probably look like for next year and didn’t want to have to struggle to fill slots. Watch every acting category be four/five nominees next year with series only going up to six.

That theory holds water, except for the part where they have fixed the series categories at eight.

I really don’t think that it should even be submitted. It is just a recording of the live play which had already competed at the Tonys.

Not if Cate Blanchett has anything to do with it…

I wonder if Succession will be able to make eligibility after all. Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox have stated in an interview recently that the producers should have news on season 3 soon and that they were recently talking about adapting the scripts to be set during the pandemic.

If so then it’s literally going to be The Crown vs Ozark vs Succession again LMAO.

Yes, but there’s precedence for this kind of thing, and the acclaim and hype of this project is undeniable.

I know Lin Manuel is the only actor in Hamilton with similar name recognition, but if  John Legend can get nominated for a divisive live theatre performance, then the acclaimed turns in this production should definitely be at least somewhat in contention.
