Of the Drama Supporting Actor nominees, I have only seen the following submissions:
David Harbour (“Stranger Things”) — “Will the Wise”
Matt Smith (“The Crown”) — “Mystery Man”I felt David Harbour was strong in his first scene, but he disappeared quite a bit and then shows up towards the end. Matt Smith appeared to be exercising in the beginning of his submission and then appears at the end. Neither one stood out too much to me.
Thoughts on Supporting Actor Drama?
This analyse is very superficial. Maybe, you don´t watch The Crown and Stranger Things regularly. Or any TV at all, if you haven´t watched the rest. The screen time does not matter that much, especially for supporting actors. Also, this is not true for Matt Smith, he feels like co-lead in his submission, his performance is terrific. David Harbour also gave a terrific performance, he shows range, also his scenes are the strongest in the episode.
I have watched all the submissions, Smith, Harbour, Patinkin and Waldau have the best tapes. Dinklage have one great scene, Finnes is good, but not great, since he is outshine by all the women.
My statement was not superficial at all. Also, how dare you say that maybe that I do not watch tv at all. I am clearly talking about what I have seen based on the submissions. There are submissions from nominees where they have tons of screen time and there are some submissions from nominees that do not have a ton of screen time – which I am usually not a fan of unless it is powerfully dramatic or powerfully comedic.
I do not have the time to watch every single show that is nominated for an Emmy. Therefore, I am basing on the submission. There are shows that I watch regularly and can point out if nominees had better episodes to submit.

And you absolutely have the right to say what you think about the submissions. In fact, this may be the exact same situation for people who do watch the episodes without having seen these seasons in their entirety.

The only “arguments: provided about the performances of Smith and Harbour were when they appear in the episode, IMO this is very superficial. I hope that voters pay attention to the performances and not just counting the minutes…..
And again, Smith is co-lead in his submission.

As RuPaul said” Reading Is Fundamental.”
I also mentioned that I thought that Harbour was strong in his first scene. Do you not remember that?
I said what I had to say and I just asked for thoughts from others. You should stop being negative.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 14, 2018 at 7:06 pm #1202609516I feel like there is a lot of support for Strahovski I wouldn’t be surprised if she won. I think it between her and Kirby.
Matt Smith is a freaking lead and calling him supporting is just stupid but putting that aside he is in my opinion the best or Peter Dinklage (but I think his time is over). I don’t really get the David Harbor thing mabey last year but his submission was just kinda meh.
On the comedy side I love Leslie Jones to pieces but I don’t get her nomination I think Cecile Strong would have been a better option but then again I find it annoying that all of these SNL people are in this category. I think it’s between Kate McKinnon and Megan Mullally. I will say that I get the argument about Lack Luster support for Will and Grace but did you see the first couple episodes. They were rough and I am the biggest fan on the planet. But to me Mullally being nominated means that she over came those episodes.
For Supporting actor comedy all I’m gonna say is Tony Shalhoub!!!!

I have already spoke about them in more details in other threats and you know that. 2. I already spoke with more details and arguments about Smith and Harbour in this thread in my previous comment. 2. I have watched all of them (not only 2) and I have watched their entire shows.

This may shock you, but I read that one sentence, it is not enough of an argument IMO. And again, I don´t know how you watched the episodes, but Smith is co-lead, so he does not really disappear at any point. It´s not about counting minutes, it´s about the structure and the story of his character inside the episode, both he and Harbour have personal conflicts inside the episodes. And I am not negative at all, my apologies if it seems that way.

Totally agree, I also believe that it´s between them.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 15, 2018 at 1:56 am #1202609679Ahhh, it makes me so sad because Strahovski might not even be there to accept if she does indeed win. She said she was due the end of September! I would love it so much if she won though!!

That would make me sad, I hope she would be able to attend somehow.
