I have Chris Sullivan in second, it’s one of those scenarios that’s so preposterous and hilarious that I almost want to predict him and take the L

Peter Dinklage is miles ahead of Alfie and Nikolaj IMO… but if there is a vote split I’d say probably, Sullivan. Not that it even matters, but Chris Sullivan’s episode submission was also pretty amazing and he’s been on the campaign trail.

I remain baffled by that nomination, so I think not, although there are some people who will vote the This is Us ticket and This is Us has proved to be good at winning pluralities with actors, so I have him fourth. I have Giancarlo Esposito ranked last, as they snubbed him just last year, so Jonathan Banks should be solidly ahead. It could be Michael Kelly in the runner-up position. I really thought that voters would ditch him for the final season like they did Jim Carter, but he held on despite the terrible season, so he must have a good level of industry respect at this point.  He would be the challenger to Peter Dinklage with the House of Cards series finale being his showcase.

Sophie was pretty great in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I might get attack for this but I still think she’s a better nominee than Fiona Shaw.

The Gold Derby forum will not attack you for trashing Fiona Shaw’s nomination.

I am still making my way through the Drama Supporting Actress submissions. Sophie Turner’s nomination should be revoked. Gwendoline Christie definitely has screen presence and I wish that she had more to do in her submission because she definitely leaves an impression in her scenes. Maisie Williams definitely had a lot of physicality in her submission, had more screen time and has some heroic moments. For some reason, none of these submissions would move me to vote based on what I saw in the submission.

I watched Fiona Shaw’s episode when it aired and I can’t remember what she did in that episode.

I still have Lena Headey and Julia Garner’s episode submissions to watch.

True, true. I always thought her crying over Theon’s body and putting the House Stark pin on him was her best performance of the season. I think it was also Sophie’s last day on set so those were real tears. Which is why I felt she should have submitted The Last of the Starks.

Turner’s best moments this year were when she was alongside Allen. Probably because those were some of the precious few scenes where Sansa was likable this season

Dinklage is definitely winning, but if anyone were able to beat him, my money would be on Jonathon Banks. He gave a wonderful performance and many people still believe he was robbed for the first season. While I can understand people saying Sullivan or Kelly might be the runner up since they won’t split the vote with anyone, I just get the feeling that there’s not enough passion for either of them at the moment. Esposito will definitely take away votes from Banks, but my guess is he’ll still be closer than anyone else. This is all moot though, because Peter Dinklage is pretty much a lock. The only thing that could’ve stopped him is if there was another Game of Thrones actor who completely outperformed him, and while Waldau and Allen gave great performances, neither are enough to stand in his way. Dinklage’s win for season 5 proved just how much voters have come to love him. He wasn’t even close to being to being the critic’s favorite, yet he still won. If Harington hadn’t given such a blatantly superior performance in season 6, Dinklage probably would’ve won’t that year as well. The voters simply adore him, and it seems they have no interest in spreading the wealth.

Or ever…Sansa was only likable when she was vulnerable and Theon saw that side of her when she was with Ramsey. But once she was rescued and put into a position of power… well, she turned into “mean girl” Sansa again. Never thought of Sansa as a great character even though D&D tried to force her down our throats. David Benioff even said she was his favorite character. UGH.

Arya saying Sansa was the smartest person she’s ever met when she used to be around Twyin was so laughable. It just shows how much D&D were trying to get the audience to become “Team Sansa”.

I never trust someone who hates Sansa. It is simple impossible for me rewatch the entire series and dislike Sansa in earlies seasons. She was a child, a hostage for years, living in the house of hers enemies but was capable of survive. She had so many great and sassy lines over the seasons, she is a truly icon and Sophie did an amazing job, specially in season 5 and 6. She was one of the weakest link in the cast, but I really like her acting right now.

Sansa’s never been a favorite of mine, but I liked her in seasons 2-6. She was an annoyingly whiney brat in season 1, but she grew on me by the very end once she realized what a monster Joffrey was, and started to show signs of growing stronger without letting her grief completely overcome her. I have mixed feelings on her in season 7. While she’s much more sympathetic than Arya, that doesn’t mean she wasn’t acting like an ass. I found it especially infuriating when she bragged about winning the Battle of the Bastards, ignoring the fact that her plan resulted in Jon and his allies being put into immense danger, while also causing a huge number of honorable men to die. I think most people here will agree that Sansa and Arya’s storyline was the weakest part of season 7.

Arya saying Sansa was the smartest person she’s ever met when she used to be around Twyin was so laughable. It just shows how much D&D were trying to get the audience to become “Team Sansa”.

I absolutely hated that line. There’s not a single person in Westeros, living or dead, who’s smarter than Tywin Lannister. Sansa may have her moments, but she’s made many mistakes. You’d think she would’ve eventually realized that repeatedly questioning Jon right in front of his most powerful allies is monumentally stupid.

It’s not just that Sansa was a brat in the first season, I could put up with that even though she was annoying. It’s just her general attitude later on that I don’t like. I totally agree with you, she was never my favorite but I didn’t really dislike Sansa until she decides not to tell Jon about the Knights of the Vale in “The Battle of the Bastards”. Season 7, she was annoying to patronize Jon in front of his people. Season 8 though, is when I had the biggest problems with her. I get that she just wants to help the Northern people but the way she treated Daenerys in Season 8 episode 4 after Daenerys risked her army, dragons and herself to help save Winterfell and the people of the North, was disgusting. In “Winterfell” she was so rude to Tyrion after he was the only one that was nice to her in Kings Landing besides Margaery and Lady Olenna. Sansa is not a saint. She blabbed Jon’s secret when he made her swear not to because she wanted a Stark as king and not Daenerys. She’s very much like her mother. Her hands were not clean in the downfall of Daenerys and that’s just unforgivable.

I think that line should’ve been Sansa is the smartest STARK. Because I believe that at least to be true. Her yelling at Jon in front of all of his people was so disrespectful and obnoxious. But hey, that’s Sansa…

I agree. Starks were definitely the dumbest family around. Those 4 kills were sad but a logical product of the characters’ idiotic decisions. I defended Sansa during her arc in Kings Landing and with Ramsey of course but she became a bitch and a backstabber.
    So poorly written.

A lot of Arya and Jon’s intelligence got stripped away in order to make Sansa look better. I would say their book counterparts and even Pre-Sansa interaction show versions are far more intelligent than her.

While I’m up for any GoT discussion, this thread doesn’t serve that purpose. Let’s just focus on discussing the submissions.

Thoughts on Julia Garner’s episode submission?

It also sucks that Liza Weil from How To Get Away With Murder was not nominated in Supporting Actress. Liza was much more deserving than some of the nominees in this category.
