Dropping back in because this went kinda unaddressed: how bizarre is that Ruffalo nom? I guess critics are part of the small group of people who actually watched the show and I’m sure it’s deserving, but how weird for them to single him out for a show they didn’t nominate, especially at the expense of Mescal. I had kinda dismissed Ruffalo being Emmy win-competitive after no one watched the show, and I still doubt it, but still a good sign for hints

I said Better Call Saul, Succession and Schitt’s Creek were at least getting between one to nine Emmy nods. I didn’t expect the shows that got 9 acting nods, 4 and 1 to be the shows they were…

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

I’ll go out on a limb and say Seehorn wins here.

By the way, did voting begin?

Rhea Seehorn would have won if we got these Emmy and TCA nominees last year, but the TCA did not awkwardly put themselves on blast for their racist history only to pass over Regina King in the nomination leader and on her path to an Emmy.

    Interesting stats here :

    – Since 2014 only once has someone won either Lead Actress or Lead Actor in a Comedy series without a TCA nomination in Individual Achievement in Comedy. This was Jeffrey Tambor in 2016 whose show was also shut out at TCA (although he was the incumbent Emmy champion and had been nominated here the previous year). If we were to use this trend to see who the frontrunner for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series is then the frontrunner is Ramy Youseff.

    – Since 2017 only one Drama Lead Actor has been nominated each year. Coincidentally enough they all have ended up being the Emmy winners that same year (and since 2014 the Emmy winner for Drama Actor has been nominated in this category). If we were to use this pattern to see who the frontrunner for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series was then the frontrunner is Jeremy Strong.

    – The last two times all contenders for a Emmy Lead Actress trophy was shut out in Individual Achievement in Drama were in 2018 and 2015 when all Lead Actress in a Limited Series potential contenders were shut out. In 2018 the award went to an actress from a show shut out at TCA and in 2015 it went to an actress in a show nominated for Outstanding Miniseries at TCA. If we were to use this pattern to see who the frontrunner would be for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series it would be impossible.

    – Since 2015, all the Lead Actor in a Limited Series winners have come from shows with actors nominated for Outstanding Miniseries at TCA. If we used this pattern to see who the frontrunner be then the frontrunners are Jeremy Irons and Paul Mescal.

    – Since 2012 the winner for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series has been from an individual who has been nominated in Individual Achievement in a Comedy. By this logic only Catherine O’Hara, Christina Applegate and Issa Rae have a chance at winning the Emmy.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

Do you mean 2016 instead of 2015?

Because in 2015, Davis & Henson both were TCA nominated losing to Hamm while the former won the Emmy. In 2016, Russell was nominated at TCA but lost to Paulson in a miniseries.

Interestingly enough, using TCA as a barometer for this year isn’t quiete impossible.

Since 2008, with the expection of the Maslany in 16 & Sedgewick in 10 (interestingly though, Maslaney was a former TCA Winner who won the Emmy on her first nomination), every Lead Actress Drama winner has had either a TCA Individual nom/win with the majority also having their a TCA Achievement Drama Series nomination.

Danes (13) and Foy (18) missed TCA Individual but had their corresponding shows nominated in TCA Drama Achievement.

And since we no contenders in Individual Drama, looking at Emmy nominees with TCA Series nomination, the only two viable contenders with that this criteria are Olivia Colman & Zendaya (funnily enough her surname is also Coleman).

When I mean Lead Actress I don’t mean only Lead Actress in a Drama I also mean Limited Series too. In both 2018 and 2015 no individual Limited/Movie actress was nominated in Individual Drama Achievement and that resulted in a name check win during in the former year and a win for a TCA Miniseries nominee for the latter.

I really want to find out who the winners are so I can see how much more heat Schitt’s Creek, Watchmen and Succession have or if there will be indicative surprises of no contender having lots of hear (i.e. Schitt’s being upset somewhere, no Limited Lead Actress win Individual Achievement in Drama)

    My current predictions

PROGRAM OF THE YEAR : Watchmen (RU: Succession)
ACHIEVEMENT IN COMEDY : Schitt’s Creek (RU: What We Do in the Shadows)
ACHIEVEMENT IN DRAMA : Succession (RU: Better Call Saul)
ACHIEVEMENT IN MOVIES, LIMITED SERIES OR DRAMATIC SPECIAL : Watchmen (RU: Unbelievable)
NEW PROGRAM : Watchmen (RU: The Mandalorian)
INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT IN COMEDY : Catherine O’Hara (Ramy Youssef)

It feels awkward not predicting Unbelievable or Mrs. America for anything because they got 4/3 nominations but I think Watchmen is sweeping.

I’m interested to see if Schitt’s Creek wins both Comedy categories or only one. If it let’s say loses achievement in comedy to Issa Rae but wins Series here then I think it win at the Emmys (it just won’t sweep). However if O’Hara wins and it loses Series I can still see it sweeping (although maybe not the 3 or 4 acting sweep that some people are predicting because I think regardless that’s not happening) like Maisel did in 2018. If it wins both then there’s no question about the hype it has but if it loses both then I think it won’t have the hype it needs to win Series. I see no scenario where it overcomes either Succession or Watchmen for Program of the Year.

I am also interested to see the extents to which Watchmen sweeps. The critics are the biggest lovers of the show so I’m confident it will sweep all 4 categories.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

I’m interested to see what happens with New Program: whether they’re so in love with Watchmen that they let it sweep there as well, or choose a show that is definitely going to have a second season

Insecure could also show up in one of the comedy categories.
