I’m quite confident with Better Call Saul, The Crown, Ozark, The Mandalorian, the last spot is between Lovecraft Country/The Boys/Bridgerton.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 25, 2021 at 8:23 am #1204060786All of the Bridgerton, Great, Ratched were one hour period right? The only nominee I think one of them could’ve theoretically replaced would be Perry Mason.
Given how Westworld won’t be Emmy eligible, I wonder if it’s the same four + one of the those three.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 25, 2021 at 8:48 am #1204060850It hurts Ratched and Bridgerton that they both are competing with the same season at the Emmys as the one they’ve competed with here and they’ve reached peak visibility and they still failed to get in. At least The Great will be competing with a new season but this snub is quite damning for it.
I’m taking The Undoing out of my predictions for production design. There is now denying that this is a massive snub for it. ADG nominated Big Little Lies twice and one of the few acclaimed elements of The Undoing where its technicals including its production design amongst crafts like cinematography, music. It’s the second guild to have gone out of their way to ignoring the show so I feel confident in my instincts that this will be an actors (and international bloc) backed show only. I do think Susanne Bier should easily get into DGA though and the show in PGA.
I Hate Suzie, I May Destroy You, Small Axe and a lot of the British shows in contention were ineligible.
I may have to consider Fargo a bit more in the technicals now. It’s dead above the line at the Emmys but it looks like it’s an easy name-check for these technicals. I had it previously in only Music and Cinematography.
The biggest snub undoubtedly is Ted Lasso. Obviously it’s still winning Series at the Emmys and is probably going to sweep there (it might even get nominated in production design at the Emmys because hardly any of these nominees are coming back on time for this Emmy season). However it is still a harsh snub, even though it probably has no impact on its Emmy chances.

February 25, 2021 at 9:22 am #1204060947I love The Affair and I love that The Whole of the Moon nomination but I assume covers of songs are eligible in the “Written and/or Recorded” category considering that’s a cover of an 80s pop song.

Their eligibility window (I assume) runs from November 2019 to November 2020. Some guilds follow a similar eligibility window and some go for January to December. Hence why there is no The Crown or The Queen’s Gambit.
