June 30, 2021 at 9:52 am #1204324550This looks fine I guess (though obviously it’s too early to judge). I’m still not predicting her for the nomination though, and I think any predictions of her beating Smart and Fanning are mostly just wishful thinking for Oh to win her overdue Emmy.

12 times Emmy nominee and 2 times SAG winner beating someone that’s can’t even happen when her show gets ensemble nom is not wishful thinking

How has that worked for Oh so far? I don’t really have a horse in this race since I’m probably going to be rooting for Cecily Strong, Natasha Lyonne, and Issa Rae all season and I don’t think any of them are winning (though I’d love it if it happened), but I don’t see much reason for confidence in Oh here. The Emmys clearly don’t care about her overdue narrative.

Where’s the confidence tho? You implied that predicting her is delusional when she has a great track record and is respected in the industry (no, never winning the Emmy doesn’t mean she isn’t respected and liked). No one said she is absolutely winning but is a contender in this race until proven otherwise.

It’s not delusional, just overly optimistic about something that seems relatively unlikely.

What’s so hard to believe about that? If Steve Carell is nominated for his 12th Emmy next year, I don’t think the Emmys will care that much about his overdue narrative either. Sandra Oh can’t just rely on narrative. She also has to be incredibly acclaimed and have a show that’s a top series contender. I think she can pull off the former, but I don’t think there’s much reason to think her show is going to be at that level. It obviously can happen, but the last 5 comedy actress winners were all the leads of the series winner. The Chair will have to be pretty strong for Oh to win.

I’d be happy if she won, she definitely deserves to win an Emmy. I just am doubtful, that’s all.

yeah, this is gonna be about an out of touch l’enfant-terrible white guy academic who has done something incredibly wrong and we’ll be sitting through his histrionics for some major part of it aren’t we? that’s what it is isn’t it? tell me you didn’t think that!

They are only producers on this project.

Sandra Oh got nominated for the first season of Killing Eve over multiple incumbents and the lead of the SAG ensemble winner just as the show’s buzz was being built too gradually for it to have wide visibility. Just last year she got nominated over SAG nominated Elisabeth Moss and Nicole Kidman (an incumbent winner) in a SAG ensemble nominee. Is she guaranteed for the win or the nomination? No. It’s only July after all lol. But just because she’s never won, it doesn’t mean she never can win or that it’s delusional to predict her for a nomination for a high profile project. The fact she made it in for Killing Eve last year or that she nabbed a nomination for Saturday Night Live in guest the year before goes to show that support is there, she just needs the right circumstances to win.
