The pilot has been released early. Lena Waithe won an Emmy for writing an episode of Master of None and is now the showrunner and creator of The Chi.December 16, 2017 at 10:54 pm #1202442185
Solid pilot. Could be an awards player. Very stylized, almost too much so. It has many stylistic similarities to Dope, as they have the same director, but this is much more dramatic of course. Great cast, Jason Mitchell is coming for that Emmy nomination. He should be getting his second Oscar nomination this year but award bodies continue to ignore him. He has a very emotional monologue. I expect this to have decent reviews. Some cast members are Better than others. I didn’t like the actor that played Jason Mitchell’s brother. The second half of the episode, after the inciting incident, is so much better.December 17, 2017 at 6:42 am #1202442385
Sonja Sohn deserves guest or supporting actress in a drama series recognition for her work on the pilot episode.December 21, 2017 at 5:08 pm #1202446380
Really enjoyed this pilot. This version of Chicago had me engaged and wanting to stick with these characters. You can fell The Wire’s influence here, but I found this less dense. Jason Mitchell is going to get his accolades one day if he continues to put in this type of work and get cast in stuff. Sonja Sohn took me out with her Momma Dee impression. More of her! This is so far the one pilot that will have me coming back.December 21, 2017 at 7:42 pm #1202446441
I’ve watched the pilot three times and I like it more everytime. Some really great characters.December 22, 2017 at 10:13 am #1202446884
GOOD pilot! Really strong acting, good dialogue, well-drawn characters. Jason Mitchell is a super talent and this looks like a hell of a role for him. This show could definitely be something.December 23, 2017 at 10:10 am #1202447434
yeah, pilot was v good and the show has definitely got a lotta potential. Jason Mitchell continues to impress and happy to see Little from Moonlight in one of the main roles as well. I do hope Sonja Sohn is guest eligible ’cause I’m here for the cast of The Wire getting their overdue noms and wins.January 7, 2018 at 12:29 am #1202458499
The second episode was released and was decent but not as good as the pilot.
Mitchell needs to be in the Emmy conversation.
Up to a 75 on metacritic. Hopefully this can make an impact on the awards circuit.January 7, 2018 at 11:52 am #1202458963

how is this doing ratings-wise?January 18, 2018 at 11:46 am #1202470235
I would say well enough to get renewed, even if it is just because it has the big Shameless lead-in.

Wasn’t grabbed by this at all. Typical boilerplate nothingness.
