Mirren’s casting would be too weird.

This is my dream casting but I agree that may seem strange. Although I did find Bonham Carter’s casting strange at the time of the announcement.

They need to bring back Michael Sheen!

FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.

FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIR

    Was Helen Mirren busy?

I really wish they could’ve just aged Claire Foy no one is ever going to top her and it’s sad.

Staunton does at least share a similar stillness in her acting style to Foy (and the queen herself) – the main feature I’d say Colman lacked

Creatively it makes sense to end at the death of Margaret in 2002.

Wow I couldn’t agree more with this.

Fabulous casting! Can we also get Staunton on Broadway for “Gypsy,” too?

Princess Diana is going to be introduced in S4 so it looks like the final season will have to  cover her divorce in 1996 and death in 1997.

Unless they skim over that because Morgan has already been there done that with “The Queen”

I guess if Mirren refused to do this, then Staunton will suffice. Sad that this won’t go six seasons, but I’ve trusted in Morgan’s vision this long, so I’ll continue to do so until the end.

Margaret’s death makes perfect sense as the end to the series. I would have loved to see it continue to present day (ideally all the way to the end of the Queen’s life), but if the show ends with Margaret then I am more than happy with that. More than anything else, the show was about the two sisters, so it feels fitting that it not continue on without the both of them.

I’m getting ready to cry at the final montage of the series finale. Cuz they’re doing one with all the Queens right???????

I guess if they kept going then we would just be waiting for The Queen to die. It would be hard to end the series post Margaret’s death as there aren’t many significant points afterwards.

I love the casting of Imelda Staunton. I think she will be great on the role. Season 4 is gonna tackle the 80s so season 5 will surely tackle the 90s until perhaps early 2000s where her mom and Margaret died. I think that would be a decent ending for the show. The current Royal Family drama is so present that I think they should not tackle it very soon although that would have been a great part of the show for sure if they hypothetically reach that point. I trust Peter Morgan’s plan and I think he has reasons why he’ll end the show with a season 5. Also it’s a very expensive show to produce so that might have been the factor since Netflix wants to spend for multiple new content.
