Could we see a full above the line Emmys sweep apart from perhaps writing going to Succession? The Crown already has shown its support in the Actress and Directing categories and reviews have singled out Menzies as a stand out. It also seems apparent that we may be over estimating the strength of Meryl Streep in Best Supporting Actress, especially if Dern and even Woodley make it into the nominations and a vote split occurs.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

I also don’t understand why so many people are jumping on Meryl. Yes, actors love her but her performance was a bit disappointing. It’s true that she was absolutely phenomenal in the first and last episode, but during the season she was just there. Her role was actually annoying for most of the episodes. Laura Dern will definitely get nominated and she will surely still a lot of votes from her. If this year’s cermenoy and winners showed us anything is that voters ARE WATCHING the shows. Right now I have HBC winning and I’m actually quite confident in it. She’s already receiving stellar reviews, she’s portraying a real life person and she will be the sole nominee for The Crown in her category.

Is anyone predicting Meryl? I think the majority agrees she will just be nominated and that’s it. Her only chance at winning is if Dern is snubbed.

Was anyone really predicting Meryl for the Emmy? I have her winning the Globe because that would be so typical of them (and they love to spread the wealth), but I don’t think anyone was talking about the Emmys yet. It depends on her competition. If Dern is nominated, they’ll vote-split, and HBC would probably take it. All I know for sure is that there are fewer instances of repeat winners in the drama races, which IMO means that Dowd, Dern, Newton and Garner are probably not competitive for the win. All roads really seem to lead to HBC ATM. Or in some strange world I could even see Strahovski win if she’s the only Handmaid’s actress nominated.

I have no problem with that happening.

It could be a Thandie Newton case: she doesn’t win when a decent amount of people wanted her to win and were predicting her to win, but capitalizes on residual goodwill on her next go-around where the field has really shaped up in her favor. And to back it up, like Newton, Strahovski also has the performance in the third season. If she does get nominated (and Dowd doesn’t) and Handmaid’s does fairly well, watch out for her.

With that said, HBC has to be really underwhelming for that to happen.

Many people in the BLL thread, and not only there. There are many people here that still think that big names win Emmys for having big names, this has never been the case in Drama and Comedy, and in the last Decade has stopped being the case in Limited series as well, still, many people are not able to see it.

Are we sure Josh Connor is not co-leading with Olivia Colman? He’s all over the trailer and he’s also in official poster with Olivia. It’s also natural that he’s talking a spot that was reserved for anyone playing prince philip, since the crown is about to cover a period in which the charles-camilla-diana triangle was the actual protagonist irl.

I feel like people are betting on the wrong horse when it comes to predicting tobias menzies’ for best actor. Josh Connor, much like claire when the crown first came out, is unkown to audiences outside the UK, but he’s pretty great.

It is not the second coming after all.

    Nobody claimed it to be?

It’s averaging out to be similar standard to previous seasons which makes sense considering it’s the same writer and is pretty solid considering the massive cast change.

It’s a good base for them to win with their next season when the juicy stuff that the public is conscious of actually happens. (Also I want Succession to win for Season 2)

Think O’Connor is Supporting based on comments that said he features more in the back half of the season.

Also seeing more standout raves for Menzies in recent reviews. It could be the case where they simply push both in Supporting although it wouldn’t make sense because I’m seeing universal praise for Jason Watkins as Harold Wilson (who also feels like a classic BAFTA winner).
