Nothing on Gillian obviously but she just looks like Gillian Anderson in a wig. At least the performance is great apparently.

This is true but I don’t think the fact she looks nothing like her matters so much to whether she delivers a strong performance or not. After all Claire Foy looks absolutely nothing like the Queen at all and yet we can all agree she was divine on the show.

I do think though that you can see with both Gillian and Emma (Gillian moreso) how they look nothing like the actors they are portraying yet they seem to have done well with copying their mannerisms. Hopefully this means the performances are there.

I mean obviously her performance remains to be seen but Gillian already to me seems to have done a better job at copying Thatcher’s mannerisms than Meryl did in The Iron Lady.

Yeah I know and agree about Foy as well. But it’s still a little disconcerting for me to see such a handsome Thatcher lol.

I don’t think the appearence matters that much imo. I mean, John Lightgow didn’t look like Churchill that much either. But at the end, the mannerisms, accent and performance were definitely there.

Will be interesting to see how much material Erin Doherty has this season. That Vanity Fair article suggested she has more juicy material than last season.

I hope she does have more to do though because she seems to be really talented. Menzies too but the fact that Riley doesn’t think he’ll even get nominated this season at the Globes makes me worried for the chances of that happening lol.

I mean I was surprised Menzies got in at the Globes last year. He’s one of my favorite additions to the show and imo does the best next to Josh O’Connor, but (a) his role is barely “Lead”- he has the same amount of focus as HBC, and (b) his storylines in S3 felt very hamfisted, like they felt they were obligated to give Philip something to do- not the showy stuff the Globes go for.

Is there a credit for Anne’s husband? If she has a bigger role this season, I can’t imagine why they didn’t even mention her marriage/kids in S3.

Yep. Mark Phillips is being played by Geoffrey Breton.

It has also been announced today that Carol Thatcher (Margaret Thatcher’s daughter who ironically was played by Olivia Colman in The Iron Lady) will be played by Rebecca Humphries. Considering how last season they didn’t announce Jane Lapotaire was in it until the embargo had been lifted I am assuming we will be getting more confirmation on who’s been cast in the “showy guest roles or cameos” (i.e. Thatcher’s government ministers) the closer we get to the season.

Considering how Humphries is nowhere near as high profile a casting as Fox as Thatcher’s son I am assuming that either Fox has a big, showy or baity role and/or that Carol Thatcher is just essentially going to be cameo-ing.

There is indeed a guest star worth considering for a nomination who has not been mentioned here.  His name is the title of his episode.

Lmao what are these cryptic hints 💀

“Mountbatten” comes to mind. Mountbatten’s death is going to be happening this season, Dance was snubbed last year but this material is super baity. I can’t imagine they’d name the episode “Louie”? But also I don’t know if they’re going to be going hyper focused/sympathetic towards Mountbatten because of his personal controversies.

Mark Thatcher and Mark Philips both have the same first name??? Unless the episode is just titled “Thatcher” and is about her husband/son lol.

Well Riley did say it’s a guest star who has not been mentioned here so he’s not talking about Breton and Fox. He may be talking about Dance but then again we did also mention him in this thread (albeit earlier on).

Tom Brooke is set to play the famous Buckingham Palace intruder Michael Fagan. He’s reported to be in the fourth episode which is a bit strange considering how that same episode credits a key figure involved in the Falklands War so I don’t see how the show manages to do both in the same episode unless they’re showing a dual perspective of Thatcher and the Queen and call the episode “Intruder” and Riley is tricking us as to who should be considered for a nomination. Although I highly doubt it.

As I said before people like Jane Lapotaire weren’t announced as a part of the cast until the embargo was lifted and there are still roles to fill in the cast such as key members of Thatcher’s cabinet (*coughs* Michael Heseltine *coughs*) who I’m assuming may get more of a focus this season than Wilson and possibly even Churchill’s cabinet did. Maybe Riley is talking about one of them.

Anyway we’ll wait and see. The fact Riley has seen both this and The Undoing and has this show first in his Globes predictions makes me confident quality wise.

Do you guys think filming for season 5 will actually begin in summer 2021 like they plan for it to? I’m predicting it to be pushed back a year later to 2022 which means we probably won’t see season 5 & 6 until 2023 & 2024.

I think it will but it will just take longer because of all the international shoots that take place because of Diana.

The situation with the pandemic may be different and The Crown is not that hard a show to film in the middle of a pandemic. Granted scenes like the 7 days after Diana’s death and Tony Blair’s Royal Festival Hall concert may be difficult to film but the show uses so much CGI that it’s hardly difficult to do something like that or like anyone will notice the difference.

I mean the producers said one of this season’s will be shorter because of how they couldn’t finish reshoots of a few scenes but they said they would have been able to do reshoots if they wanted but they didn’t want to miss the November release slot.

I’m currently predicting season 5 will arrive in November 2022 and season 6 in December 2023 because I think they will face delays but it won’t be as much as when they had to delay season 2’s release date to December 2017 because Foy was pregnant.

So someone ignored the embargo and shared this:

Apparently HBC is in too many episodes (5/10) to be considered Guest (even though like 2 of those are just her appearing for 2 seconds without talking). But she gets one episode to herself where is she amazing. Opposed to Corrin and Anderson  who are in basically every episode and get plenty of baity scenes.

Menzies gets barely anything and is barely a side character. O’Conner gets lots of baity material.

Have a great day if you see this!

Well, I guess my O’Connor prediction for SAG is plausible.

I’m glad I’m predicting O’Connor too now lol.

I think all three are getting nominated. The question is whether Corrin and Anderson can win and that answer lies on whether Ozark returns on time or not. If Ozark does then Garner has it signed, sealed and delivered but if Ozark doesn’t then Corrin and Anderson could be this year’s Comer/Oh, Strong/Cox, Brown/Ventimiglia etc.

If Corrin is the one who has the tape Riley is talking about then I’d say she’s easily winning at the very least the BAFTA (where I don’t think there is really an actress in a show this year who seems to have a baity tape like Wunmi Mosaku did when she stopped Vanessa Kirby from winning for season 1).
