Very happy to hear that. One season isn’t good enough for Imelda Staunton. Here’s hoping the show will raise her profile again.
Also, since this thread hasn’t been updated since June – it was announced a couple of days ago that Lesley Manville will play Margaret.

I doubt series 5 goes up until 1997. We already know it goes into 2003 from previous statements by Morgan. I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed when the season ends but haven’t they already written season 5?
I wouldn’t be surprised if season 6 goes to the Jubilee though or the Kate and William Royal Wedding.

The casting of this series for Elizabeth and Margaret is a gift that keeps on giving. After the great Imelda Staunton as the former, we now have the great Lesley Manville for the latter. Two of my favorite and best-working thespians in the planet.
But wait, I thought Netflix is cancelling their shows to just only 3 to 4 seasons? What could have Peter Morgan done to convince them that a season 6 is worth it? I mean, considering the budget and all that comes with it.
The Deadline article clearly states that this doesn’t mean the story will get anywhere near present-day, but only up to the early 2000s.

It was always meant to have 6 seasons, but then it was announced that they would only do until 5. So I guess they already had everything ready for 6th season until they called it quits at season 5. The thing is that the longer the show goes the more to present day it gets. So I would assume that Morgan was going to do 5 as the last one since he didn’t want to come closer to recent events. I’d say that’s the reason the show won’t get past 2010.

I think it’s bit to early to say that she’s going to win the Emmy AS a consolation prize 😉.

Netflix cancelled enough shows randomly that they found money for another season of The Crown.
