Personally I find this talking point kind of overstated. The UK tabloid industry is absolutely obsessed with the royal family, with dissecting their lives and actions- they’re far more frequently talked about here on morning shows and by boomer pundits like that vegan roll douche, and the joe schmoe Brit probably has a lot better idea of what the family’s up to than the joe schmoe American. It wasn’t Americans who drove Meghan and Harry away was it? Anyway, I’m not American and I couldn’t name any of the younger ones, but I still enjoy the show a lot- it’s a historical drama with superb craft and good writing/performances.
People don’t really care, largely. Our press thinks we do though and they hype them.October 15, 2020 at 4:47 am #1203780053
With the amount of pictures Netflix is releasing I feel like we can watch this season by putting the images together and using stop motion animation.

What are all the episode titles?
We don’t have all of them but…
– According to Riley, episode 4 will be called “Fagan”. It will follow an intruder climbing through the palace gates and visiting the Queen in her bedroom.
– According to the (London) Times, there will be an episode called “The Balmoral Test”. It will follow Margaret Thatcher and Diana taking part in an initiation ceremony determining whether an outsider will be welcomed into the Royal Family. The episode will also follow Thatcher’s inability to master protocol and explore her inability to understand high customs as a daughter of a greengrocer.
– According to an interview with Peter Morgan there will be an episode called “Avalanche”. This previously was due to have an actual Avalanche but because of Covid scuppering the last pieces of filming the show needed to complete the episode title will be used metaphorically.

Certain that Mountbatten’s funeral episode will be called Mountbatten. The name alone evokes so much, not least of which is the impact on Phillip and the question of royal surnames and male lineage (e.g. Harry-no-surname).
The trailer looks FAB but I have to say the wigs aren’t working for me. Thatcher’s hair was never quite that high. Di’s hair was more frosty and feathered, way less glossy disco. Her Maj and Margaret’s wigs don’t feel right either.
On the question of acting, mimicry of a living or recently living person shouldn’t be the sole mark of the acting performance. The reason Foy was so convincing was that literally none of us could judge whether she was mimicking The Queen correctly at that stage of her life, in private. When it comes to re-enacting events in our living memory that we’ve seen on screen, it’s just an SNL impressions job. Chloe Fineman could do an excellent Lady Di.
Finally, not sure if this has been mentioned but the trailer voiceover was not in fact from The Princess Bride but was the Archbishop of Canterbury’s speech at the wedding of the century.October 18, 2020 at 8:30 am #1203785805This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.October 18, 2020 at 8:47 am #1203785864

Yet Gillian Anderson is still more attractive than Margaret Thatcher.

Not like it means anything but Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Ncuti Gatwa have all either liked or reacted to Emma Corrin’s posts about Diana and The Crown on Instagram and have done things like congratulated her on the show or said they are looking forward to the show specifically for her performance on their Instagram stories etc.
Obviously that doesn’t mean her awards chances are boosted or anything but it shows that there is a TONNE of hype for the performance from someone who is considered even in the British television industry (unlike Claire Foy, Josh O’Connor, Emerald Fennell and Vanessa Kirby she has had only two television credits one of which was a guest spot on a procedural and the other was a recurring role on Pennyworth) to be a nobody. I mean I know it’s expected because she’s playing the most famous woman of the 20th century but still it’s interesting.October 18, 2020 at 9:32 am #1203786003
I thought these were stamps for a second, like they’re going all the way with Queen themed merch, but no they’re just really badly filtered, heavy lighting, airbrushed promo pictures….
