They’re about the same height lol. Around 6′. It’s hard to find an as tall guy as Debicki who is like 6’3″.

lol you’re right. This is the moment I put on my clown makeup. I really thought Benedict was much taller than Dominic. Oh well… I still think he would be a much better choice than the latter.

The way that Debicki’s casting was met with universal praise whereas West’s is being clowned everywhere… Well, at least it’s true to the way people see Charles and Diana irl

    rubbish

I mean we should’ve expected something like this. Debicki is very tall by men’s standards, and it was clear that her casting was ability over appearance. If they were casting Diana like that, then it makes sense they’d cast Charles like that as well. I’d rather someone give a great performance than just look taller than Debicki.

Oh! I think Corrin’s Diana accent sounds pretty darn good.

    Was about to post this!

According to Carter, Colman and Menzies in an interview they said Anderson’s Thatcher voice felt like the ghost of Thatcher was in the room with them when they were shooting. Obviously take what they’ve said with a pinch of salt but if this is true then their ability to capture the voices of Diana and Thatcher (along with the mannerisms we saw them capture in the trailer) might mean we are truly headed for not only the most exciting season of The Crown ever but also a more exciting head to head of two actors from the same show awards wise than we saw with Comer and Oh and Cox and Strong.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

Hearing that Corrin and Anderson really nail their characters makes me very excited for the new season. Let’s hope the writing doesn’t let them down.

EDIT: The more I hear about season 4 and the casting additions also just adds to my disappointment over Dominic West’s apparent casting as Prince Charles in season 5. I know I said this last night, but I’m still scratching my head over it. Did they originally offer the role to someone else who declined, thus making West their second choice or something? I don’t get it.

I feel quite confident about the writing actually. I’ve read the script for The Audience and one of the best parts of that script were the Queen’s interactions with Thatcher. Considering how Morgan’s writing is quite good when there is juicy material (I.e. Beryl, Dear Mrs Kennedy) and he often borrows from The Audience (almost all of The Queen’s interactions with Harold Wilson last season were direct word for word copies of The Audience) I’ll be very surprised if the writing isn’t there.

I do worry it may get punished by critics because they’ll feel Netflix has overhyped it.

You’re worried about Netflix overhyping the season but I’ve practically seen more coverage of it from you alone than I have from Netflix.

One post of yours ago, you say “…along with the mannerisms we saw them capture in the trailer might mean we are truly headed for not only the most exciting season of The Crown ever…” when talking about Gillian Anderson and Emma Corrin. For this post, I’ll focus on the “mannerisms” we see Anderson act out in the most recent trailer.

0:28 She puts on an earring and looks into a mirror,

0:51 We see her looking at something while being driven in a car,

    1:10 She kneels,

    1:16 She lowers her head,

1:20 She’s hunched over in her bed.

These are the only times that Anderson appears in the trailer and each clip lasts for no more than two seconds. I’m by no means criticizing Anderson because I’m sure she’ll deliver a good performance because I’ve seen her act in plenty of other things. You, on the other hand, are convinced she’s going to deliver an amazing performance because of 10 seconds from a trailer.

A week ago you said you edited your friend’s documentary on Thatcher but I don’t see how seeing 5 different instances that last for a total of 10 seconds (where she doesn’t even speak!) can let you know she’s perfected her mannerisms.

You don’t have to worry about Netflix overhyping the new season, but you should be aware that YOU are the one who’s constantly praising it without seeing it, which is by definition, overhyping it.

Look if you have a problem with me talking about The Crown on here DM me about. Don’t try to exacerbate an issue on a thread. This is a thread where people should be allowed to talk about the show whether they are excited or not. It’s not a thread where people should start making things unpleasant for other users and attacking other users for simply getting excited about a show.

I’m sorry that I’m excited about the show but frankly who isn’t excited about different films and programmes coming up this winter? If you look on the Oscars thread you’ll see far more overhyping of other films than on here (that in no way is me pointing out someone’s hypocrisy or anything it’s more saying that people are excited and deservingly so. We want escapism from the pandemic world).

Also I’m not praising anything as if “I have seen” the season. I’m simply saying “it looks like she’s captured her mannerisms perfectly” or “it looks like from Corrin’s interview where she literally does Diana’s voice that she’s captured her voice perfectly” and I’m actually one of the only people on here who are convinced will do a good job because of her previous work (I feel like the trailer also shows she delivers a transformative performance but that’s just me).

Ugh I love the way Gillian Andrson speaks.

    Gillian’s British accent > Gillian’s American accent

It’s interesting how the actors playing the Queen seem to get posher and posher.

I never said you should stop talking about the show (nor did I “attack” you…), I just find it extremely confusing how you can be using words like “transformative” based off of a TRAILER. A trailer where frankly, nothing transformative is seen. You’d think that by being on these forums for a while, you’d learn that you shouldn’t use words like “transformative” until AFTER you’ve seen the person act for more than 20 seconds!

Other than your use of the words “mannerisms” and “voice” you never explain how their performances are “transformative”,  can you enlighten us?

Long article/interview from Town and Country mag about the new season. Lots of behind the scenes details and info about some of the plot lines: A Royally Candid Interview with The Crown’s Emma Corrin, Josh O’Connor, and Emerald Fennell
