Didn’t see a thread when I searched on here, so here it is.

Well publicised as a huge series for Netflix financially, The Crown – marking the reign of Queen Elizabeth II over six decades, and possibly six seasons, has released a four minute first look on Twitter!

Claire Foy, ladies and gentlemen! Finally, the world will see how brilliant this woman is. And that she should already be an Emmy winner for “Wolf Hall.”

I for one am more anxious for Jared Harris, Matt Smith and of course, John Lithgow.

Battle of the Churchills for the Emmys/Globes/TV BAFTAs in the coming year(s)? Lithgow in The Crown and Michael Gambon in the upcoming Churchill’s Secret!

The Crown, which will tell the story of Queen Elisabeth II. and “the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world – Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century”, in 6 seasons á 10 episodes, will air on Netflix 4th November.

    Here is the trailer.

Apparently the series cost £100 million to make, so hopefully they will get some awards love.

The cast has me yearning so much to watch this now:
    Clare Foy (BAFTA nominee)
    Matt Smith (BAFTA nominee)
    Jared Harris (Emmy nominee)
John Lithgow (Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe winner, Oscar nominee)
    Victoria Hamilton (Olivier winner)
Stephen Dillane (Tony, BAFTA winner, Emmy nominee)
Dame Eileen Atkins (BAFTA, Olivier, Emmy winner, Golden Globe, Tony nominee)
Dame Harriet Walter (Olivier, Tony nominee)
    Alex Jennings (3x Olivier Winner)

    Please, please be good.

It sounds good on paper, but the trailer looks very Downton Abbey-ish (I mean soapy). But I will watch the first couple episodes, just to see Matt Smith and Claire Foy as Elisabeth and Prinz Philipp.

The show is created and written by Peter Morgan, so it has very good potential to begin with. It comes at the right time and could easily take Downton Abbey’s slot.

And John Lithgow as Sir Winston Churchill? He’ll win another Emmy.

Here for the amazing Claire Foy (who should have been nodded for “Wolf Hall” BTW)!

Great director, terrific cast…although I think a few may be becoming typecast. We’ve seen some of these players before.
Speaking of which, too bad no Mark Rylance.
Claire Foy was spectacular as Anne Boleyn in Wolf Hall.

I am so there for this. My cup of tea hands down. Hopefully they get it ‘right’.

I actually completely forgot that she was snubbed at the Emmys when making my list above. Such a ridiculous snub.

This is not my type of show at all, but I think I might check it out. The trailer actually looks quite visually impressive, and I’ll try just about any original Netflix programming.

More social commentary and less soap opera would be nice. So I hope the writing is strong and not like Downton Abbey. Ha!
