I wish we had more time to explore these characters but I’m happy Simon’s vision will get to be seen all the way through.September 25, 2018 at 5:16 am #1202640956
I just finished watching the first 3 episodes of season 2 of “The Deuce”. I’m going to spoil here, so be warned.
Maggie Gyllenhaal as Candy/Eileen is the best part of the series. Her character continues to be the most interesting and I find I’m always cheering for her, even when she makes decisions that I wish she wouldn’t – like what she had to do to get the $$$ from the movie producer. But then again, it makes her real and is something she would do for the money.
I like that Dorothy (Ashley) is back and I’m interested to see how CC is going to handle it. Speaking of CC, I can’t stand the pimp. I think he feels like he’s losing control over his ladies, and I especially hope Lori abandons him. But I’m worried with what he might do – he almost killed Melissa with Lori’s best supporting actress award.
Not a fan of Frankie at all – get rid of him already.
I wish Darlene had more to do – I liked the storyline about white girls getting paid more than black girls for the same work and how Darlene made it an issue. Poor Larry – he’s so clueless.
I have actually started liking Abby this go around – wasn’t much of a fan in the first season, but she’s won me over. I like the relationship between her and Dorothy.
Finally, I wish they wouldn’t have killed off Ruby in the first season. I thought she was one of the most interesting characters.
Season 2 is not quite as good as the first season, but still intriguing enough to keep watching.

This week’s episode was funnier than certain “comedies”.October 22, 2018 at 10:07 am #1202659027
Didn’t know Gandolfini’s son was in the show.November 5, 2018 at 3:18 pm #1202669066
I really enjoyed the past nine weeks of the second season. It’s almost unbelievable how this went under the radar without a James Franco scandal, lol.
If Dominique Fishback was the breakout star of the first season, this time that’s Emily Meade. The show has one of the best ensembles on television right now.
Who else is watching? Pulp? Reis? Hunter-ish?November 6, 2018 at 10:56 am #1202669661
I for one am shocked by how little this show is talked about, especially on Gold Derby. It’s got quality acting, production, storyline, etc. and I really think its more awards worthy than some other shows that are always in the running. I can’t wait for Season 3!
Also, mini SPOILER ALERT ahead…
Do we know what happened to Dorothy? That seemed brushed over…November 6, 2018 at 11:18 am #1202669679
I’m assuming when CC was out of the picture, one or more of the pimps killed Dorothy. They spoke about it in the previous episode, but CC encouraged them not to. But, like you said they pretty much brushed over who killed her. Very sad about Ashley/Dorothy – but I’m glad to see CC gone even though Gary Carr was excellent.
I plan on binge watching all of season 2 again because I feel like I missed some things.November 6, 2018 at 1:35 pm #1202669758

Yeah I’m watching and I loved this season, especially the last few episodes. I think this season was overall a little better than season 1 but both are excellent. This is the best drama currently on television and has by far the best ensemble. Gyllenhaal and Emily Meade should be competing for wins while Franco, Carr, Akinnagbe, and Neumann are all worthy of nominations.
I do think this show would benefit from a few more episodes a year. I wish we got more time with Dorothy and with Alston and Goldman. I’m pretty mad Luke Kirby didn’t have any nude scenes.November 6, 2018 at 3:21 pm #1202669786
I also agree that this is the best drama of the 2018-19 season (excluding dramatic miniseries), and that season 2 is better. I guess it just doesn’t inspire the passion within me that my favourite shows have done in the past.
