The Deuce aired its series finale last night on HBO. I haven’t fully grasped why no one watched this show and why it has received no love from awards bodies. Maggie Gyllenhaal should be winning the Emmy for her portrayal of Candy/Eileen and many of the supporting players should be receiving nominations. The visuals and production on this show fully immerses you in the 70s/80s and actually makes you feel like you’re there.

Regarding the finale, I really like the last few scenes and how it was done. The series is perfect example of telling a full story within a few seasons and not dragging it out unnecessarily.

    Anyone else watch?

Season Three of “The Deuce” was interesting – I struggled with it’s pace at times, but there were so many beautiful touches and scenes that made the final season worth it. The conversation between Melissa and her father, Candy in her Emmy worthy recount of how she felt betrayed by her father who was supposed to be her protector, the quick demise of Lori and the impact of AIDs on the gay community. I loved so many of these well written characters and it was a tough watch at times. It was a world of hustlers, porn stars, corrupt policemen, mobsters and prostitutes – death was always right around the corner. Sadness ran through these stories and characters.

“The Deuce” had one of the best endings I’ve seen for any series. I had to watch it twice. Although I am sad to see it go, it was time to end it – and a beautiful and reflective ending it was.

I did love those final minutes. Thought it was perfect ending. Hopefully it will be one of those shows that in a few year people will appreciate more. Maggie should of gotten some awards consideration besides a gg nomination
