It’s no secret that The Flintstones was the first animated series to be nominated as a comedy series at the Emmys. Why was the show never able to break back into the comedy race after its first season though? Here are a few of my theories:

    A) There was a backlash within the Television Academy over an animated program competing with live-action programs.

    B) The first season benefited from not only being the first animated show in Primetime, but also because Mel Blanc (The voice of Barney) was in a near fatal car accident prior to the ceremony. Blanc also appeared on The Jack Benny Show, which won that year.

    C) In the following years, Hanna-Barbera produced a couple more Primetime cartoons with Top Cat and The Jetsons, making it harder for one animated series to stand out.

What do you think? Let me know your theory!

Hazel and The Beverly Hillbillies happened and voters found something new and shiny the next two years to nominate (Saying that I LOVE both tbh and tf lol). That’s my theory. It became viewed as a kids show after that I think.
