Episode 3.4: The Snowplow
Written by Joe Mande; directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller
Michael and Janet escape Judge Gen’s wrath and are now exiled on Earth. A sentence of eternity in the Bad Place awaited them if they had stayed. But no sooner than both return to Australia, a surprising announcement from one of the humans threatens to implode all four’s do-overs.October 11, 2018 at 7:48 pm #1202651062
Good episode; just good, though. The first time in a bit that I feel the show is treading a slight bit of water. Kudos to Kirby Howell-Baptiste for the monologue of the night:
“Here’s my guess. As humans evolved the first big problem we had to overcome was me vs. us – learning to sacrifice a little individual freedom for the benefit of a group. Like sharing food and resources so we don’t starve or get eaten by tigers – things like that. The next problem to overcome was us vs. them – trying to see other groups different from ours as equal. That one we’re still struggling with. That’s why we still have racism and nationalism and why fans of Stone Cold Steve Austin hate fans of The Rock. What’s interesting about you is that I don’t think you ever got past the me vs. us stage. Have you ever been part of a group that you really cared about? The Brainy Bunch is basically the first group that became a part of your self identify and now that that’s breaking up you’re feeling this new kind of loss. You’re scared of going back to being alone. That’s just my guess. The other possible medical diagnosis is that you’re just a bit of a dick.”

This week episode was my favorite of the season.October 13, 2018 at 11:51 am #1202652007
Probably agree with Reis, but I’m not sure the writers are going in the right direction. I think this season is very good overall but inferior to S2 and on the same level of S1.October 16, 2018 at 7:39 pm #1202654159
Nerdist has a very intriguing theory about the newest cast member. Seems they think Michael and Janet aren’t the only other-worldly folk in Aussie:October 16, 2018 at 10:24 pm #1202654255

Kirby Howell-Baptiste was a guest on TGP podcast the other week, along with one of the writers of the show, Dan Schofield. He gave a very curious little piece of information about her character name – it appears that Simone was derived from the original scripts having ‘Sim One’ (Sim 1) written, and they derived her name from that. It sounds a little hokey that they would have had such a strange choice of placeholder name, and then used the exact same thing as the actual character name. I can’t decide if they’re messing with us, and it’s a big red herring, or if they just dropped a clue about what’s really going on in this world.
The theory in that article has a decent amount of merit, and I’m leaning towards her being an angel/Good Place worker. We’ve seen nothing of the actual Good Place for this entire series so far, nor anyone who has made it there on merit. It feels like it’s about time we got some more information about that place. I suspect they’ve delayed it’s reveal as long as possible, because it’s another one of those ‘blow the whole show’s premise up’ kind of moments!October 17, 2018 at 9:09 am #1202654499
I always hated Chidi.
Now I am starting to hate Eleanor.

Episode 3.5: Jeremy Bearimy
Written by Megan Amram; directed by Trent O’Donnell
BUSTED! Michael and Janet meet a fate worse than another dust-up with Judge Gen – being forced to come clean to the humans and revealing just how involved they are – and were – in their lives.October 18, 2018 at 6:58 pm #1202656424
This is The Good Place’s answer to Atlanta’s ‘Teddy Perkins’.
Staggering, awe-forking-some great. Emmy submission tapes for all the actors, Megan Amram (the violin player) who wrote it and Trent O’Donnell, who directed. Best episode of the series. So far.
