    Underwhelming episode.

I haven’t seen the episode from June 6th, but I confess I gave the last 2 episodes of the show 2/10 on IMDB.

lmao, ur a stan and even I’ve given it like 7/10 the past few eps. It’s been really dull. It might feel slow-paced but it just isn’t, if that makes sense. I think it’s going on a normal pace for its nature of a show. That’s the magic of it. I just don’t like the direction of where they’re going. Everything’s back to where it started. The girls from the Colonies are back, Fred is back too soon and if u watch the ep, spoiler kind-of, everything’s back in “order” in the house now. It was shown in the trailer anyway. Ik the show isn’t called Gilead, but Handmaid’s Tale, so it’d be really soon for things to radically change this season already, but I feel like this show is at this point something like Keeping Up With the Waterfords or Gilead, an insight in their everyday life, rather than a plot-driven drama. I’m afraid objectively, despite of who I want to win, that the fact that only 10 eps will be submitted, there won’t be enough closure, and that’ll hurt its chances at winning anyway. I’d just want, you know, for June to escape back then, or for Fred to die. Things would really change that way. I do think things are gonna change though in the next eps. The direction (directing) has been superb though so far. And my fav ep was actually “Baggage”. Wasn’t rly a fan of the June/Holly flashbacks, but the episode was really magical from start to finish. And as of Casting, the cast doesn’t really shine in this show, they don’t really get the material, compared to Stranger Things where they were superb in S2, all of them, or supposedly, This Is Us.

Both Game of Thrones and The Handmaid’s Tale have severely suffered in quality after they had no books left to adapt. GoT S6 was still good because it was partially adapting material from the still incomplete (sigh) The Winds of Winter but S7 was where the cracks became really visible when the writers had nothing to work with. Winning Series won’t be as easy as previous years. I have always said that Martin is the only person who could write this series in a satisfactory way that won’t alienate the fans.

As for The Handmaid’s Tale, I’m pretty sad and disappointed to see it follow the Homeland route. A great, critically acclaimed series that comes out of nowhere, unexpectedly sweeps the Emmys and provides it’s network it’s first big win, hence raising it’s profile. High expectations for it’s second season. Starts out strong but falters mid-way and dives in quality, with the acting being it’s redemption. I wish they had concluded it last year. I think Moss will repeat but the show will struggle to retain it’s crown.

The most disappointing thing, though, would be to see either of them win Writing, which most likely will happen.

I wonder what happens with Serena this season. Or the next. Strahovski is pregnant and she’s due late Sep. I wonder how that’ll affect the filming period for S3, or whether or not they’ll temporarily write her off.
EDIT: She said she probably won’t be featured at the start of S3.

    Episode 9 Promo I’m intrigued.

Strahovski is coming for the win. We willed Bledel to happen, and this time she is bringing the goods. I can see it happening.

I’m surprised people aren’t making more of how the writing has literally plummeted in quality (definitely not a complaint about it being too ‘slow’). Even if it comes together at the end of the season, it’s still uneven. Having said that, I will definitely keep watching for the acting, cinematography and the tone of the show overall.

Well, THT S2>every GoT season and every ASOIAF book.

I loved this week’s episode. Yvonne has been incredible. I actually think this season has been incredible. The weakest episode was 3, otherwise I think every episode has been so strong. It’s so beautiful shot, acted, everything.

THIS. I can and will have an easy time stanning for Moss this year, far more than I will have stanning or even wanting the show itself to win for Writing. If it wins Writing for “June” I would be understanding since that still is my favorite episode of the season thus far. I feel like I need to binge the entirety of The Americans’ 6th season. I’ve NEVER been a fan of the show because the pacing has been too slow for my tastes, but just for having an informed opinion I feel I ought to at least try binging it. Where is it currently available?

So if The Handmaid’s Tale is this years Homeland season 2, is Game of Thrones this years Breaking Bad (The winner)?

While unlikely, I’m hoping The Americans will be this years Breaking Bad, as in the most acclaimed show of the year finally winning for (the first half of) its final season.

The Americans isn’t winning Drama Series under any circumstance. If it had even a snowball’s chance in hell it would have been nominated for Drama Series last year. I think it is safe, I would dare say a lock to return as a Drama Series nominee, but it is destined to remain an also-ran. As for the Game of Thrones to Breaking Bad comparison, that is far better and more sensible of an analysis. Thrones will win in spite of its low lows, because its highest highs many fans of the show would argue were higher than any other show on TV the past year.

There is just too much exposition this season which feels manipulative because of how inorganic they are. An example was the Handmaid’s ritual at the funeral in “After.” Aside from being visually pleasing, I don’t know how it fit into the story. They also made a big show of the pen to parallel the bomb from the episode before. It would have resonated if something actually came of it. Turns out it was just there because, well why bypass such dramatics right?

A more egregious example was June’s last scene in “Women’s Work” What was that reaction all about? I actually cringed at EM’s acing here because even she couldn’t force out the reaction in a believable way. And did she have to dramatically kneel on the floor. Right in the middle of that symbol? And why did it have to be so drawn out. The show could be great on its own without these things, they cheapen it IMO

As sad as it is, The Americans will probably go Emmyless as far as Russell, Rhys and the show itself is concerned. I think that by the time the Television Academy started nominating it for several major awards, it was too late.

I am not gonna even comment on the fact that you are comparing a television series with a book series.
    Anyway
