Here’s a link to a brilliant roundtable discussion between Angela Bassett, Elisabeth Moss, Claire Foy, Thandie Newton, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Sandra Oh.

I thought this was just a brilliant collection of actresses. The diversity of this group (not just race but age and “type” and experiences) provides for such a great conversation.

I love these roundtables so very much and I love all of these actresses, but this was my least favorite roundtable. Newton and Gyllenhall didn’t let anyone else talk. Poor Elisabeth Moss, she barely got to say anything, same for Bassett and Foy. Sandra Oh is amazing and I loved what she had to say!

I didn’t mind Newton and Gyllenhaal’s dominating so much because it was a long roundtable and what the others said when they had a chance to speak was just pure gold. I also think what Newton and Gyllenhaal said was gold too except Newton repeated points a bit too much (which made her look like she was taking over) and Gyllenhaal just had a lot to talk about it. Oh was my MVP of this roundtable. I found Moss and Foy to be absolutely winning. I do wish Basset was able to talk more but she seemed comfortable listening.

Unfortunately, the moderator was doing very little to actually moderate. You would think that this was the Gyllenhaal and Newton show with the way they overpowered the entire conversation. At least Oh got a chance to talk a fair amount, all of it insightful. Foy, Moss, and Bassett were relegated to the background. Especially Moss, who barely seemed to speak at all, and Bassett was constantly talked over…what a drag. The bit where Black Panther was brought up was fun, though.
