This show is the reason why Alan Arkin couldn’t return as Grace’s father on W&G so it better be good. But it looks awful…October 12, 2018 at 8:55 am #1202651379
And people are actually promoting this as a Golden Globe contender.October 12, 2018 at 9:27 am #1202651402

Is this supposed to be a male version of Grace and Frankie? Speaking of, with Grace and Frankie and Barry vibes, this could be a thing at the Globes, maybe even at the Emmys too. I suppose the Gold Derby team has intel from Netflix for putting Arkin in supporting in the predictions center, but he definitely looks like a co-lead in the trailer.October 12, 2018 at 10:49 am #1202651463
I like that trailer … I disagree with you, it doesn’t look awful.
I’m truly confident that this show is deeper than what it looks at first sight.
The fact that the AFI Film Festival has added this show to its lineup makes me very confident about its quality.
So I bet both Douglas and Arkin will get nominated at the Globes.October 13, 2018 at 11:45 am #1202651999
That was not what I expected. It looks bad. Did not know that this was Chuck Lorre or Netflix.November 16, 2018 at 9:01 am #1202676271
Watched the pilot. I low-key liked it, tho it’s not very interesting so far. Douglas is decent, he’s definitely getting nominated for the Globe. As of Arkin, he had very limited screentime, so he’s definitely supporting, at least so far. And Emily Osment, lol, I wasn’t sure she’d be good when I realised she was gonna be an acting student, but she was quite good, kudos to her.November 17, 2018 at 8:23 am #1202676983
A male “Grace & Frankie”? Pass.November 17, 2018 at 9:40 am #1202677015
Not sure why but I like the show yet want more out of it at the same time. Arkin is the standout to me but Douglas stole the show in the later episodes for me.
“Chapter One: An Actor Avoids”: B
“Chapter Two: An Agent Grieves”: B
“Chapter Three: A Prostate Enlarges”: B
“Chapter Four: A Kegel Squeaks”: B
“Chapter Five: An Agent Crowns”: B
“Chapter Six: A Daughter Detoxes”: B
“Chapter Seven: A String Is Attached”: B
“Chapter Eight: A Widow Approaches”: BNovember 17, 2018 at 9:52 am #1202677021
I have only watched the pilot but based on that first episode, I can say that Mickey D is probably going to be nominated at the Globes. It’s great acting and I like how they put the humor about getting old.November 17, 2018 at 10:13 am #1202677047
Both Arkin and Douglas are getting nominated at the Emmys next year. And both of them should campaign as Leads a la Tomlin & Fonda. I don’t see the show doing more though, maybe a couple of technical nods.November 17, 2018 at 10:20 am #1202677055

I am all for Arkin getting nominated and the same for Douglas but if Arkin gets nominated, he should go supporting actor in a comedy. I could totally see Douglas and Arkin winning that way.
