I am really liking this show. I find the cast to be great; especially Cynthia Erivo, whom I didn’t particularly care for going in, but she’s making me a fan.

The show has been teasing a full descent into the supernatural for a while, but going there this episode was a lot and it is not helped by the show taking place in contemporary Georgia. It will all be easier to swallow going forward though and that scene in which Holly delivered her findings was deliciously tense and well acted.

I am really enjoying this show. Cynthia Erivo, Mare Winnigham and Julianne Nicholson are doing some excellent work. Especially, I love Erivo’s character picking up things about the entity.

Episode Title: “In the Pines, In the Pines”

Synopsis: Holly makes a calculated attempt to help a volatile but conflicted Jack, while their whereabouts are tracked by Ralph and Alec. After she’s confronted by town gossip on her first day back at work, Glory considers Howie’s suggestion on how to secure her family’s financial future.

This series continues to engage and mystify as it goes along. So glad to hear that the ratings are consistently rising as more viewers discover how great this is, while most people here will sleep on brilliance yet again until it maxes out on Emmy nods this summer. Anywho, this was a strong showcase for Marc Menchaca, who doesn’t have the level of name recognition that most of the other white dudes in this ensemble, but he more than makes his impact felt in scene after scene. He would make an excellent supporting actor nominee. As great as Ben Mendelsohn is generally, I do find Ralph’s continued disbelief in what can’t be explained by facts and “reason” a tad grating. His character would have seen the light by now in a tighter six episodes, but in stretching this out ten episodes, that’s not the case. Excited to see Paddy Considine get his showcase episode next week, though his American accent is trying so harrrddd lol. Erivo has such an ease to her accent, and I guess Mendelsohn to an extent. It’s surprising and also a statement about where the industry is right now that so many foreign actors are cast in such a deeply rooted American story and film.

As of now I think this show should win minieseries at the Emmys if that’s the category it’s in. If it goes Drama series it’s going to be an uphill battle for wins but I could see it getting noms. Love this show overall though Nice balance of crime and creepy πŸ™‚

This was probably the weakest episode so far to me. You can really feel the strain of them trying to fill ten episodes.

I’m overall enjoying the series but it hasn’t quite re-captured the highs of the first pair of episodes so far.
