Somehow this show didn’t have a topic on here before its release. Just watched five episodes and what a beautiful show. Scott Frank’s writing and directing are amazing and so does Anya Taylor Joy’s performance. I’m sure this show will be present at the winter awards and Netflix will campaign for it as I’m already seeing ads on Deadline.
ReplyOctober 23, 2020 at 10:12 pm #1203799624I knew Anya Taylor-Joy would be amazing playing this role, but I was not expecting Marielle Heller to be just as great at all. Hopefully she’ll be a serious contender to some awards.

Great writing, amazing costumes and set pieces, haunting music, top notch performances, it’s a win

I have some personally traumatizing memories of chess from middle school lol but this show makes it well worth reliving the horrors of hyper-competitive 12 year old boys.

I just can’t see this missing any awards. Netflix really blessed us by releasing this and Bly Manor at the same month.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 24, 2020 at 3:06 pm #1203800546Just finished. Was not expecting to cry in the second half. That one scene in ep 6 (or was it 5) with Beth finding the clippings made me almost burst into tears.

I also cried at that scene too.

I fell victim too it as well, a powerful moment. We will be campaigning for Miss Joy.

Actually it’s episode 7 but yeah I cried too like a baby . It was SO emotional. Best finale of the year. Best show Netflix has ever done honestly.
And it’s the #1 show on Netflix since 3 days now!
ReplyCopy URLOctober 27, 2020 at 2:50 pm #1203806216I binged on this like crazy. The ending was perfection and Anya Taylor-Joy took my breath away.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 27, 2020 at 2:53 pm #1203806227Best show of the year and I don’t care what anyone says.
I hope Netflix don’t ruin it by making a season 2 (I know it’s marked as a mini, but you’ll never know these days).

Honestly this ending has just stuck with me in a way that the ending of a few show’s have this year.
I’ll be a bit disappointed if this doesn’t get any traction during awards season because it deserves to be in contention. At least for something.
