It was a fine return, a little underwhelming because we got so little of Beth. Mandy Moore continues to impress but let me tell you something… the promo for next week’s episode has me GAGGING!January 15, 2020 at 6:53 am #1203285695
Mandy Moore really shined in this returning episode. I think that she will retain her Emmy slot in lead actress drama this year despite the increased competition. She’s remarkable in the present-day scenes, which I guess some might chalk up to the old-age makeup. Either way, Moore completely sells Rebecca no matter the time period. Kevin’s marriage quest provided some nice levity here. The John Legend guest spot wasn’t as ridiculous as I thought it would be. Those women, yikes. I’m perfectly fine with bringing Sophie back, as she was Kevin’s best match to date. Kate and Toby’s scenes were middling. I’d rather see their struggles raising Jack then fighting about Toby’s health quest, which should be a good thing. And that last scene?!?! Like, I know Randall will pull through it, b/c duh, but that really jarred me for some reason. Excited to see where the back-end episodes lead us!January 15, 2020 at 6:56 am #1203285707
And a side note: congrats to Chrissy Metz for signing a record deal with a country music label! She sings on the Oscar-nominated “I’m Standing with You” from “Breakthrough.” She might be asked to perform it on the Oscars next month.

This was a good episode but at the same time I can care less about Toby and Kate tbh. My grade: AJanuary 17, 2020 at 5:56 am #1203288890
Return episode was good but I was a bit bored by Kate and Toby storyline.
Kevin part was better but they need to focus to one love interest and build a solid plot.
Best parts was Rebecca storylines, in present and past.
Mandy Moore and Sterling K. Brown are killing this season!
Also great “human” turn by Ellizabeth Perkins, give me more of that.
Anyway she was right: Jasck and Rebecca love story (and Moore and Ventimiglia chemistry) is one for the ages.
Ready for the big 3 episodes!January 18, 2020 at 2:47 am #1203290397
This episode hit me. Best episode of the season. The editing was fantastic! And boy that ending made my skin crawl

Sterling K. Brown has a tape! This was one of the best written episodes of the season (joining “The Dinner and the Date” and “Storybook Love”) and it was superbly acted by Brown, Susan Kelechi Watson, Omar Epps and Rachel Hilson.
Niles Fitch, who I’ve always considered my favorite of the young performers, put out some of his best work to date. He slightly overshadowed Brown, in my opinion but both were fantastic nonetheless.
I’m very confident that Sterling K. Brown keeps his spot at the Emmys and he has an impressive episode to show for it.
It sucks that we have to wait so long for the next episode but I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait. I’ve always been a huge fan of Justin Hartley (he had the best individual episode & performance for the first trilogy) and I have no doubt he’ll blow me away again.
And I’m glad we’re inching closer to learning about Marc and his relationship with Kate. I forgot to mention Chrissy Metz’s beautiful performance in the previous episode (“Lights and Shadows”). She may no longer be a strong Emmy contender but her work is still impressive, even better than when she used to get awards recognition.
Man, I really love this season!January 22, 2020 at 7:34 am #1203298547
A+! Emmy tape that any other of the nominees should fear. This was the best one all season so far.January 24, 2020 at 1:30 pm #1203302785
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Yeah, this was definitely Brown’s tape! He’s easily this season’s MVP. Milo needs to submit in supporting, because he just isn’t a lead this season.</p>

Sterling K. Brown really nailed this one! If there were any doubts that he’s returning this year at the Emmys, this episode squashed them. I also was very impressed by Niles Fitch here. Those dream sequences were pretty intense, and he handled them beautifully. He has such great chemistry with Rachel Hilson. Usually the one teen on the show that gives me Emmy vibes is Lyric Ross, but now that’s starting to expand somewhat. Very much interested in seeing the other two showcases in this arc. I shouldn’t speculate like this with how unpredictable the show is, but I’m guessing this latest encounter beteeen Kevin and Sophie means that Sophie is the mother? They’ve already told us that the expecting mom is on bed rest or something in the flash-forward to the next Big Three birthday, so the clock is ticking lol. I hope it’s Sophie and not Jennifer Morrison’s character ugh. And then whatever emergency of Kate’s will likely be the basis of her episode? That guy teen Kate is dating gives me abusive boyfriend vibes, but let’s see what happens there. They really should have waited until February to return for uninterrupted episodes then come back now and not again for three weeks.January 25, 2020 at 8:52 pm #1203305041
