I believe This Is Us is more Emmy deserving than The Handmaid’s Tale.
Especially when Chrissy Metz for Season 1 scene (Kate Lets It All Out / funeral) didn’t win an Emmy and Ann Dowd did.March 15, 2018 at 9:58 pm #1202514093
I love both shows, feel no need to compare the two because they are SO different. And if I were the one choosing, THT would definitely win. THT is above and beyond in my opinion.
Emmys 2019 FYC: Lena Headey ("Game of Thrones"), Cicely Tyson ("HTGAWM"), Viola Davis ("HTGAWM"), "The Haunting of Hill House" & "Escape at Dannemora" in all categoriesMarch 15, 2018 at 10:00 pm #1202514096
Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.March 15, 2018 at 10:06 pm #1202514101
Chrissy Metz deserves no Emmys for that performance. I’ll have to see season 2 of THT before I can compare the two, but season 1 was better than This is Us’ season 1.
Bob Odenkirk for the win!March 16, 2018 at 12:13 am #1202514132
This is Us and The Handmaid’s Tale are incomparable, so trying to do so (along with the actresses) is kind of silly.
Metz is alright. She sometimes has her moments, but imo she doesn’t really give Emmy-worthy performances. Ann Dowd, on the other hand, absolutely deserved her win for THT. I also would’ve awarded Thandie Newton for Westworld.
But, to each their own!March 16, 2018 at 3:58 am #1202514195
It’s hard to compare these two shows.
I think Metz deserved her nod last year and I would have picked her over Dowd (love Ann Dowd but for example I think she gave a stronger perfomance in The Leftovers season 1).
This year I would not nominate Metz (I prefered Kelechi Watson) and Dowd, of course, is yet to be seen.March 16, 2018 at 8:00 am #1202514288
I watch This is Us every week (not live but I catch up) and NO. They are in totally different leagues of acting, sophistication, and storytelling. I mean This is Us is so unsubtle and doesn’t trust the audience enough that they have to hit you over the head with these overwrought messages and speeches that it’s not even funny anymore (though to be fair maybe they are right to not trust the audience).

I think House of Cards deserved to lose to This Is Us, but no one else from the nominated dramas last year. I hate to say this, but the show is manipulative, if that makes sense.
Metz was never deserving of an Emmy nomination.March 16, 2018 at 9:08 am #1202514350
Just because you’re morbidly obese doesn’t mean you deserve awards.March 16, 2018 at 9:12 am #1202514352
Both are great but this is like comparing apples to oranges in a way. Personally prefer This Is Us but love both.March 16, 2018 at 9:14 am #1202514355
I can compare apple to oranges. Oranges are better. The same way I can compare these two shows, The Handmaid’s Tale is a million times better.March 16, 2018 at 9:24 am #1202514391
This is us is Smaltzy shit .. its a soap opera for sappy people who wanna watch unrealistically manufactured drama to have sob sessions…
THT is a brilliant imagining of a brilliant novel …. there is no comparison.

The Crown > Stranger Things >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The restMarch 16, 2018 at 10:33 am #1202514505
Last year, The Handmaid’s Tale 100% got my vote for Best Drama Series. This year, we’ll have to see, but I’m expecting Handmaid’s Tale S2 to be great. I love This Is Us and think it should win for several acting awards, especially for Milo this year. I’d be ok if Sterling, Mandy, and Justin won too. I’d be ok if the series won too, but I don’t necessarily think it’s the best show on TV.
