I tallied up the lists using the Uproxx/HitFix methodology (ten points for first through one point for tenth): The Americans would still be third, but Atlanta would be ousted from first by Killing Eve, which is an affront to quality writing.

Killing Eve is the second most overrated show of this century

FYC: Drama Series: Game of Thrones, Succession, Bodyguard. Drama Lead Actress: Emilia Clarke, Drama Lead Actor: Richard Madden, Jeremy Strong. Limited Series: Chernobyl

I had some time to burn, so I calculated what the Uproxx critics poll results would have mostly been this year using their ranked lists method. Any ranked list in the Metacritic article that was created by a critic who previously participated in a HitFix/Uproxx poll is in these results. These are the shows that received at least 15 points.

    1. The Americans 150
    2. Atlanta 141
    3. Killing Eve 111
    4. Better Call Saul 79
    5. The Good Fight 61
    6. The Good Place 56
    7. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel 42
    8. Succession 38
    9. Barry 37
    10. Pose 35
    11. Homecoming 29
    12. BoJack Horseman 28
    13. Sharp Objects 27
    14. Escape at Dannemora 26
    15. My Brilliant Friend 25
    16. GLOW 22
    16. Lodge 49 22
    18. One Day at a Time 18
    19. Big Mouth 15

That makes more sense. I had assumed that more of the Uproxx critics were accounted for on Metacritic though. The Leftovers won last year with 275 points, appearing on 31 of the 55 lists. How many critics carried over from Uproxx last year to Metacritic this year? Like 30? There still might be another Metacritic update, by the way. They have previously edited as late as the 7th.

There were 25 HitFix/Uproxx poll critics with ranked lists on Metacritic. There were a few like Maureen Ryan who had unranked lists, but I chose to exclude them.

With the last update, Killing Eve is the most acclaimed tv show of the year according to Metacritic. It makes me sad, but it’s probably gone too far ahead to be caught up again.

Almost half of these shows have a better Metacritic Score than Killing Eve.

Critics received seven of Killing Eve‘s eight episodes in advance, the same as last year’s winner The Leftovers. The difference is that The Leftovers scored 98. The narrative shifted in Killing Eve‘s favour somewhere along the way and critics reassessed their feelings for the show.
