Jill Soloway’s Amazon series Transparent is ending its run with a musical movie that will “dramatize the death of Maura in an odyssey of comedy and melancholy.”

    Trailer

“THE TRANSPARENT MUSICALE FINALE takes the beloved Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning series TRANSPARENT to new heights as a dazzling two-hour movie musical fantasia. When the Pfeffermans face a life-changing loss, they begin a journey hilarious and melancholy, brazen and bold. As they face this new transition, they confront grief and come together to celebrate connection, joy, and transformation.”

This was…exactly how you’d expect. There was a lot going on. The last 5 minutes alternate hits and misses in rapid fire succession.

Judith Light bore her neurotic soul.
Alexandra Billings and Kathryn Hahn found comedic and tragic balance..

This should win TV movie next year to honor the series as a whole. I feel like i can say that itd be deserving considering how that category shouldnt exist to begin with

    Awful.

And for the record, I adore musical theatre. I also adored the first two seasons of this show, and thought the second was the best season of any show the year it was released. However, this just seemed like such a mess. I know a tremendous amount of effort was put into this project, but good god. Memorable in all the worst ways.

I actually didn’t think it was that bad. Although the musical part of it sucked, I’m not sure why they decided to do that. I think they should have just cut their losses and ended it with season 4, or maybe do like a shorter 6 episode season to fully wrap everything up for the rest of the characters.
