Which TV character deaths were you shocked to see.
I’ll start with probably the most shocking I saw this decade :
FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.
FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIRMay 12, 2020 at 5:51 pm #1203478797

Stringer Bell is a recent death I’ve been shocked by. I haven’t finished the series yet, but I think I know another person who dies but I don’t want it to be true.

Spoilers for Mad Men and Game of Thrones
Lane Pryce on the former is a pretty shocking example. Definitely not the kind of show where you expect a main character to be killed off. The execution also initially tricks you into thinking his first failed suicide attempt will end up sparing him before showing that his second was unfortunately successful. Even the reveal of his body is shocking. It starts out as a fairly simple looking shot, and then his uncomfortably realistic looking corpse pops into frame.
As for Game of Thrones, while it’s been spoiled for many people and anyone who read the books knew it was coming, Ned Stark’s death is still a huge twist. He was the most prominent character in the cast, played by the ensemble’s most famous actor, front and center in all the advertising, directly related to most of the other season 1 protagonists, had a mysterious past that nobody else knew about, and was the closest thing the show had to a traditional fantasy hero. Much like the prior example, the show also tricks you into thinking he’ll survive his circumstances by introducing a loophole that would allow him to live, only to turn that on its head and kill him anyway. Even the timing of his death is a shock. You’d think if a show was gonna kill off it’s lead in the first season, they’d at least do it in the finale, but Ned Stark bit the dust in the penultimate episode.May 13, 2020 at 7:57 pm #1203480535
