I think D’Arcy Carden should be nominated for an Emmy or Golden Globe for her work on The Good Place. She was always so spot-on to me throughout the show. I don’t really hear many people talking about her Lauren Ambrose is so great in Servant, particularly in her centric episode when we find out what happened. So heart-wrenching.

In terms of the actresses from the past, the most underrated and in my top three best TV actresses ever, that definitely goes to Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black. So transformative yet believable. Who are your underrated TV actresses?

Two that come to mind are Liza Weil and Jenifer Lewis.

Liza Weil in How To Get Away With Murder definitely should have been nominated for Supporting Actress Drama for seasons 2 and 4.

Jenifer Lewis also should have been nominated for her scene stealing work in black-ish. She should have won 1 – 2 Emmys for her work.

It depends on your definition of underrated because there’s some performances that were nominated for awards that I still find so criminally underrated

Here’s some off the top of my head
    – Keri Russell, The Americans
    – Noah Emmerich, The Americans
    – Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Deuce
    – Annie Murphy, Schitt’s Creek
    – Patrick Wilson, Fargo
    – Michelle Fairley, Game of Thrones

Frances Conroy is great in everything I’ve seen her in no matter how big or small the role. I found her to be great from what I’ve seen in Six Feet Under and also in American Horror Story. I loved her in season 1, 2, and 3. She was also great in Joker despite having very little to do.

Michelle Fairley was the best actress for the first 3 seasons of Game of Thrones and was ignored. She should have won an Emmy for Season 3 easily.

Caitriona Balfe is outstanding in Outlander and deserve a lot more. She should have won an Emmy for Season 2. Damn, that girl got FOUR Golden Globes nominations in a row for that show and not a single Emmy nomination.

Justina Machado in One Day at a Time
    Sarah Sutherland in Veep
Danielle Brooks in Orange Is the New Black
Donna Lynne Champlin in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Justine Lupe in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Katherine Langford in 13 Reasons Why
    Gayle Rankin in GLOW
Selenis Leyva in Orange Is the New Black
Adrienne C. Moore in Orange Is the New Black
    Maya Erskine in PEN15
    Emma Mackey in Sex Education
Elizabeth Olsen in Sorry for Your Loss
Kate Siegel in The Haunting of Hill House
Victoria Pedretti in The Haunting of Hill House

And what might be my favorite underrated performance of all time:
Bryce Dallas Howard in Black Mirror: Nosedive

Agree with those praising Michelle Fairley. The writers never really got Catelyn right, but she was so perfect for the role it still worked for me. Much like the character herself, it’s an undervalued and underappreciated performance and one of the show’s best.

Also, I know a lot of people love her but Rhea Seehorn is likely going to miss yet another Emmy nomination. Get it together, Emmys, and reward that wonderful woman!

I seem to recall George RR Martin has said the show not bringing her back as Lady Stoneheart like the books did was the biggest missed opportunity of the series. Interestingly, it was after the season four finale where this event would’ve taken place but ultimately didn’t that Martin stopped contributing to the show. I’m sure that, along with some other divisive deviations in the series played a part in that.

    Rachel Bloom in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
    Lisa Kudrow in The Comeback
    Ilana Glazer in Broad City
    Abbi Jacobson in Broad City
    Maya Erskine in PEN15
    Anna Konkle in PEN15
    Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Fargo
Alison Brie in Community and GLOW
    Gayle Rankin in GLOW
Kether Donohue in You’re the Worst
    Kelly Bishop in Gilmore Girls
Rhea Seehorn in Better Call Saul
    Pamela Adlon in Better Things
    Aubrey Plaza in Legion
    Ruth Wilson in Luther
    Jessica Walter in Arrested Development
    Anna Torv in Mindhunter

This performance, in my opnion, is one of the best performances of all time and hurts me everytime I remember that she was never nominated to an Emmy, Golden Globe or SAG when she should’ve won all of them:

    Eva Green – Penny Dreadful

I don’t even have words to describe how perfect she was on the show. Also, I don’t even have words to describe how robbed she was in awards terms.

Laura Linney - Lead Actress in a Drama Series/ Julia Garner - Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Catherine O'hara - Lead Actress in a Comedy Series/ Annie Murphy - Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

I second Aya Cash in You’re the Worst. That is a performance that is really close to my heart and she crushed it.

It may be because I’m watching the show at the moment but my big one for this year is Emily Meade’s performance on the final season of The Deuce.

She’s just sensational and puts many of the inevitable Emmy nominees to shame.
