Vincent D’Onofrio should’ve been nominated for Daredevil’s first two seasons (supporting for the first and guest for the second), .
On D’Onofrio, I saw him stanning Daredevil on the Saturn Award Ceremony the other night before I lost interest (I can’t say I’ve ever seen Daredevil) and it reminded me D’Onofrio is the only thing that ever made me watch a Law and Order franchise religiously. I always thought he was almost too good for that role.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 18, 2019 at 8:40 pm #1203085817in Feys defense, comedy does not age well, and the narrative surrounding Marcia Clark didn’t really materialize until the miniseries, before that the prosecuting team’s ineptness was considered responsible for the verdict. I agree it’s really distasteful now, but it did not seem so at the time it was written
Alright. I’m pretty young, and American Crime Story was my first real exposure to OJ’s trial beyond just the basic details. Still, even knowing that the public was still against them all these years later, I just find it so random that Fey included Clark and Darden in the first place. And as a feminist who was obviously around during the time of the trial, it’s pretty strange that Fey seemingly had no sympathy for the incredibly blatant sexism Clark endured. It’s crazy to think that Fey’s satire was seen as acceptable then, when she would’ve faced so much backlash if the show had premiered a year later.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 18, 2019 at 9:22 pm #1203085853man, I could talk and talk about Tina Fey’s career post 30 Rock. I was a big fan of that show, but boi, Tina’s work after that – both as a writer and an actor – is…well, let’s just say it’s underwhelming.
I did like some of the stuff on UKS, but the show had too many misses for me to truly appreciated it as an excellent work. They gave us great gifs, tho! And Titus!
Mindy Kaling is following a similiar path of disappointment.

Agreed. You hit the nail on the head with UKS. It started off fairly solid, but it’s weaknesses became more clear and frequent as it went on. There’s a lot that it did well, but some scenes felt downright cringeworthy. Also, let’s not forget the infamous casting of Jane Krakowski as a Native American. The initial reveal was a funny joke, but the fact that they actually tried to make it into a big character arc for her begs the question “Why didn’t you just cast a Native American actress?”. And then they had an episode the next season insulting everyone who thought it was offensive made things even worse. I can’t even remember the name of her news show comedy or if it’s still on air or not. Goes to show how much of an impact it made. Her musical adaptation of Mean Girls has done well financially, but it’s reception is mixed at best. A great and unique story was ultimately turned into a horribly generic show that couldn’t capture the original’s biting edge, and also features a complete and total mess of a score. Don’t let its Tony nominations fool you. As someone who follows Broadway, most people agree that it only did well in nominations because that was an extremely weak year, with only about four productions really getting particularly strong notices (one of them being the surprisingly excellent Spongebob SquarePants musical). It’s a shame, cause it sounded like a great idea for a show. I really don’t know what’s happened to Fey. I think she’s still a strong actress, but I fear she’s lost it as a writer. Hopefully she could do something great again before too long, cause I know she’s capable of so much more than her recent projects.

He should have won for those seasons. I’d give him an additional nom for season 3 as well.

The Emmys are pretty nerdy as of late, what with Game of Thrones winning big, and shows like Stranger Things and Westworld doing pretty well. I give them credit for embracing genre projects more than all the other awards bodies.
On the topic of Game of Thrones, Kit Harington is a good actor. This is really only an unpopular opinion on these forums, as his performance seems to be warmly received everywhere else I look.

I definitely think he improved over the years… his material in season 8 didn’t do him any good in the eyes of viewers but I thought he was excellent in seasons 6 and 7. He is kind of a one-note at times though…

Yeah, I thought he got better each year until the 7th season. I might’ve preferred him in season 6, but that may just be because his material was stronger that year. I think he wasn’t as good in season 8, but I believe that’s his because he got so horribly screwed when it came to decent material. I would’ve nominated Harrington for seasons 5 and 7, and given him the win for season 6.
