Easy one for me; I think Charlize Theron in Monster is possibly the hammiest performance ever to win a Best Actress Oscar. I have given it a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and gazillionth chance but I always find myself cringing as I watch it.

And I appreciate The Color Purple for its many attributes but I find Whoopi godawful in it. I just can’t look past the obvious inexperience and cluelessness in that performance. Spielberg did a great job trying to cover it up but it sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

I don’t mind Bullock’s win for The Blind Side (and suggest to those who don’t like it to pretend it was for Gravity instead).
Lupita Nyong’o was perfectly forgettable in 12YAS.
Sally Hawkins deserved to win instead (although I don’t know if this is technically “unpopular”).
Jennifer Lawrence deserved to win for SLP.
    12YAS was manipulative tripe.
Harvey’s campaigning isn’t any worse than any other studio’s, but as he’s known for it he’s an easy target.
Viola Davis was terrible playing the same character in both Doubt and The Help.
Rooney Mara should have won for TGWTDT.
Marisa Tomei’s win is one of my all time favourites.
Joe Pesci’s speech is my all time favourite.

I’ve only been an Oscar watcher since ’11, hence the lack of many thoughts from before that time.

O yes. How dare they take an autobiography of such little import and make a film about it. It’s such, “old hat”

Amy Adams should have won for Doubt, Junebug, and The Master

The Master should have SWEPT SWEPT SWEPT SWEPT THE OSCARS!!!!!

I thought it was funny that Melissa Leo dropped the F bomb in her oscar speech

Sally Hawkins should have won for Blue Jasmine

Blue Jasmine should have won for screenplay

I didn’t find Carey Mulligan to be that great in An Education….. she was ok

Sandra Bullocks win isn’t as bad as people say it is………

    Jennifer Lawrence is overrated

    Ban Affleck is overrated

12YAS is a great film but a big reason of why it won was because the Academy would have looked bad if they picked Gravity over 12YAS (an important film)……. its unfair to Gravity and the other nominees

I LOVE The Tree of Life

The Village should have gotten quite a few nominations including Bryce Dallas Howard for Best Actress

Glenn Close should have tied with Meryl in 2011

Ed Harris should have won for The Hours

Nicole Kidman was great in The Hours

I dislike the majority of Mike Leigh’s films.

I think Tom Hanks is the single worst actor to ever win an Oscar.

I feel that, with the exception of American Hustle, Jennifer Lawrence has yet to give a bad performance.

I found Meryl Streep and Amy Adams cringeworthy in Doubt.

This posting has allowed me to make peace with disagreeing with you. And I no longer feel an urge to convince you otherwise on anything.

Going My Way and The Greatest Show on Earth are better films than most BP winners.

Damn it, sent a really long post and GD swallowed it up.

Last year Supporting Actor should’ve been the slam-dunk (Hoffman) and Supporting Actress the close race (between Adams, Field and Hunt – all >>>>> Anne Hathaway)

Michael Haneke deserved Best Director for Amour, and Ben Affleck was rightfully not nominated (I liked Argo, but wasn’t one of the 5 best directorial achievements of the year.)

Jean Dujardin deserved his Oscar – every time I hear Tom O’Neil shit on his win on his podcasts my blood boils. His performance in The Artist rivals some of the greatest silent film actors. Gary Oldman was runner-up for me.

Hugh Jackman relies on looking like death warmed up in order to give a dramatic performance. Very little nuance or sense of character progression. His later scenes in Les Miz without the grizzled makeup are dull as dishwater.

Maybe it’s not such a travesty that Shakespeare in love beat Saving Private Ryan.

Finally, Denzel Washington deserved to beat Russell Crowe. His against-type perf in Training Day still gives me chills, and transcends a rather ordinary cop-thriller.

I think it’s pretty consensual that Meryl Streep is hilariously awful in Doubt. That’s a Razzie worthy performance if I ever saw one. The movie is just as awful but seriously Meryl hammying it up with thunders and storms in the background just cracks me up everytime.

Gravity is not a masterpiece. Children of Men is Cuaron’s best film.

American Hustle is David O. Russell’s best film.

Lord of the Rings is the best film of this century.

Inception might be the best film of this decade so far.

The Dark Knight Rises is on par with The Dark Knight.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is Spielberg’s best film.

The Departed is Scorsese’s fourth best film.

Inglourious Basterds might be Tarantino’s best film.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is the best film from 1939.

Jean Dujardin was deserving (though my pick would be Pitt).

The Sound of Music is way overrated.

Maybe some other things I’m forgetting.
