I hope Samantha Bee gets in this year! I have a feeling she will.Riley (the normal one, not the one who won the predictions contest)ParticipantMarch 6, 2017 at 11:33 am #1202030587
Jimmy Fallon might be done. TV by the Numbers has a great article about how his ratings are down about fifteen percent since the inauguration, while Colbert has risen and is now beating him in viewers. And look at how Fallon fared at the precursors above. It was snubbed by PGA, DGA and WGA and it was nominated by all three last year. In fact, it won DGA the last two years and won PGA two years ago, so its snubs are even more staggering. Even at the Emmys, it seems like it is on its way out, having gone from five nominations including a win three years ago to just two nominations last year.
Samantha Bee should be able to get in this year. I think that she was just a little late last year. She got nominated by the writers at the Emmys and has now been nominated.
John Oliver is the only nomination lock though and is pretty locked for the win. James Corden should be safe, but its DGA nomination above is in the variety special, not the variety series category, so its support is not that deep. You would think that if Jerry Seinfeld could get in last year, he would be able to get in again, but this category is so competitive.
Bill Maher finally fell out two years ago, but then we got into the election and he has made a comeback, complete with PGA and DGA nominations this year and a WGA win last year. But he did miss two years ago, so he is not entirely safe, especially since it is such an old show.
Jimmy Kimmel has gotten in the last three years without writing or directing nominations, so he has been on thin ice for a very long time. It has zero guild support, but Kimmel did just host the Oscars and got great notices for it. This is a tough one.
Stephen Colbert was a huge flop at the Emmys last year, but it got DGA and WGA, so things are looking up.
Then we have Seth Meyers and Trevor Noah, who have been quite viral in the Donald Trump era and have WGA nominations to show for it, so they could easily bump Kimmel or Seinfeld. This category is so tough. I will go with Last Week Tonight, The Late Late Show, Full Frontal, Real Time, The Tonight Show and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but this is very much a ten-horse race.March 7, 2017 at 7:44 am #1202031233
My Dream Line Up:
Watch What Happens Live
What will probably happen
Colbert could very likely get in but I hope it’s at Kimmel’s expense. I think Meyers might get into writing not seriesApril 14, 2017 at 9:54 pm #1202066917April 15, 2017 at 8:51 am #1202067188
I think Seth Meyers and Samantha Bee will get in very easily. As well as Stephen Colbert. Those 3 are the loudest in their opposition to Trump compared to Fallon and Kimmel.Riley (the normal one, not the one who won the predictions contest)ParticipantJune 17, 2017 at 2:52 am #1202124066

Damn. It seems like SNL’s push this year is Jimmy Fallon. Was hoping it would be Dave Chappelle. They’re still winning so it doesn’t really matter.June 17, 2017 at 10:18 am #1202124273

I agree 110%. I would think they would push Chappelle and Hanks. Don’t get me wrong Jimmy is great when he hosts but I think the other two were equally as great.Riley (the normal one, not the one who won the predictions contest)ParticipantJune 17, 2017 at 12:01 pm #1202124295
