What are you predictions in the variety categories? Series and Special.
ReplyMarch 10, 2021 at 1:41 pm #1204105550Reminder: the earlier announced recombining of Talk and Sketch Series into a single Variety Series category was reversed. There will be separate Variety Talk Series and Variety Sketch Series categories in 2021.

Prime Video could also make a play as well with the Fenty Fashion Show and Yearly Departed.

March 23, 2021 at 12:22 pm #1204153292I just hope Beyoncé finally wins something.
Same, I can’t believe she created two cultural resets only to lose to Carpool Karaoke, TWICE!!.

March 24, 2021 at 6:54 pm #1204156624Didn’t treatise this until now but Yvonne Orji’s HBO comedy special “Momma, I Made It!” was released June 6 2020 (thought it was late April) so it’s eligible.
Could probably do well.
ReplyCopy URLApril 11, 2021 at 12:55 am #1204191536The HBO West Wing election special just the DGA, this is something that needs to be considered? Or did it just win because it was directed by the Guilds president (Schlamme)
ReplyCopy URLApril 13, 2021 at 6:04 pm #1204199155“Derek Deglaudia’s In & Of Itself” will apparently be Hulu’s third biggest push this season (after Handmaid’s & Pen15), as those three (and Taste the Nation) are the only programming with separate pages in their FYC booklet.
The special is also directed by the legendary Frank Oz.

April 18, 2021 at 11:15 am #1204207472Apple TV+ has Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special. It didn’t do much in terms of the guilds (besides make-up/hair) but it could be a potential nominee for Variety Special (Pre-Recorded).
ReplyCopy URLApril 26, 2021 at 1:31 pm #1204229929Do the Grammys just win Variety Live by default?
There’s no Tonys, the Emmys don’t submit themselves, The Weeknd’s SB was kinda underwhelming, Oscars were a mess, less said about the Globes the better and the only Live Network/Musical production was Matthew Morrison as the Grinch (yikes).
And I’m doubtful they’d go for things like The Disney Holiday Singalong, HBCU Homecoming Celebration or the VaxLive concert when they never did last year peak-pandemic (aka ones people watched). And I seriously doubt they’d be as adventurous as to nominated The TikTok Ratatouille Musical or the plethora of virtual concerts (Dua Lipa, BTS, Billie Eilish etc).
