Alright, I was dismissive of this being significant before, but I am hearing more about Helen Pierce—and at the expense of Ruth Langmore. People have come around to thinking that both will get nominated, so it is time to settle whether the split will get in the way of another Emmy. For what it is worth and Ozark is obviously hotter this year, but my Janet McTeer interview has dwarfed both of our past Julia Garner interviews combined in terms of traffic.

ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2020 at 1:16 pm #1203455826I’d vote for McTeer. She’s equally excellent in what I think is a more challenging role. Plus I don’t think Linney and Pelphrey’s performances and arc would have been nearly as impactful without McTeer’s work underpinning them.

April 30, 2020 at 1:19 pm #1203455838I’d probably go with Garner because I just find that chatacter and the way she plays her to be fascinating, but McTeer really is outstanding, and it would be a difficult choice for me. That delivery of, “Enough! Get Out!” will forever be etched in my mind.

ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2020 at 2:02 pm #1203455949Garner, hands down.
Not sure if anyone listens to Marc Maron’s podcast, but he had Laura Linney on the latest episode and she talked about how perfect Garner is for her role in Ozark. It’s match made in heaven, with Garner’s sensibilities as an actor and the qualities that the role requires, it’s pretty undeniable that it’s an electrifying combo. McTeer is fantastic, but there’s just a certain umph to Julia as Ruth that I find so appealing.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2020 at 2:03 pm #1203455951While I think Garner was slightly better than McTeer, I voted McTeer because she really elevated the material she was given and would be a deserving winner. With that being said though, Drama Supporting Actress is an incredible lineup and I would support any of them winning.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2020 at 2:13 pm #1203455970Both Julia Garner and Janet McTeer are great in their roles. I voted for McTeer. Janet took a role that could have been flat and elevated this role. If a character can make me want to see them on the screen again as well as thinking how will they react to scenes that they are not even in – then that is a good sign for me.

Oh, I’ll definitely have to listen!

This is so accurate. Whenever McTeer wasn’t on screen, I was constantly wondering what Helen was doing.

April 30, 2020 at 3:51 pm #1203456128I’d vote McTeer. Garner is great, but her character didn’t factor as much into the story until she got beaten up by that Jr. POS.
Unpopular opinion, but I’m not as enamored with Ruth as the majority of Ozark fans. She’s a cool character, and Garner portrays her well. But I just don’t get the overwhelming response that gives the character a free pass for everything she does.
Anyway, McTeer was a great menacing antagonist, and she played the desperate mom/ex-wife well opposite her fixer gig.
Plus, this McTeer’s only chance, versus Garner who’ll have more opportunities as long as the show is around.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2020 at 3:56 pm #1203456135Garner. I wouldn’t even waste 2 seconds thinking about that decision.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2020 at 4:16 pm #1203456182Helena Bonham Carter rises with those results.
Jk.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2020 at 4:16 pm #1203456184McTeer. While I respect Garner’s performance, I don’t love it. Plus, McTeer was such a welcomed presence to the show.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2020 at 4:29 pm #1203456199I like Julia Garner and “Ruth” a lot and preferred them in S1 ans s2, but Janet McTeer and “Helen” were excellent and compelling throughout s3. I wouldn’t be mad if either actress won, tbh.
