HBO usually confirms the submissions of the series and cast on Emmy in April, but considering what is happening in the world, maybe this will take longer this year.

Emmys FYC: Freddie Highmore in Best Drama Actor for "The Good Doctor", Jane Levy in Best Comedy Actress for "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist", "What We Do in the Shadows" and "After Life" in Best Comedy Series, "Ozark" and "Better Call Saul" in all categories.

I find it hard to believe they’ll submit him guest – in a trailer he declares he’ll “save the fucking world”, so I’m guessing that he’ll be back for some bigger scenes. He’ll probably go supporting and miss a nomination like Anthony Hopkins if this keeps up. This season has been good and is thankfully picking up, but the poor screentime division is really messing with the actors’ odds. Last week’s episode had them all together and was the strongest, yet they’re going back to divided plotlines with only four episodes left to go. I still love the show, but I’m getting worried about how they’ll tie everything up. Season one and season two I could see those endings happening, if not the details. Season three could be a major disaster or a huge triumph depending on how these next few episodes roll out, but if they’re all heavily divided then I’m pretty concerned.

Could they make a case for Thandie Newton in Guest Actress? From the trailers for season 3, we know Dolores and Maeve will have a showdown in a city street (Maeve presumably holding the sword she was killed with). If that happens in the finale and we don’t see Newton until then, could she be Guest eligible?  If so, then she has her submission episode and Thompson has her Supporting submission.

I’m afraid not. I think it is unlikely that Newton will only return in the finale, but even if it is the case, she would have to appear in only 3 episodes of this season to be eligible for Guest.

Thank you! I remember reading on here a while back that a Guest Actor needs to appear in less than 50% of the season. Does that vary by episode count of the series? For example, if an actor was on a broadcast drama that did 24 episodes a year and they appeared in 11 episodes, are they still eligible for Guest?

And with Newton, does her post-credits scene “count” as an appearance or is there a loophole there that could be argued for it not being “part of” the episode?

It counts, so she will be ineligible the next time that she appears because she already has appeared in three episodes. Appearing in fewer than half of the episodes is the only rule (with the exception of “orphaned episodes” eligibility, which does not apply here).

Well, even if Newton was taken out of the picture, Thompson wouldn’t make the supporting lineup.

I’m a huge fan of her work this season and I agree. Newton is already becoming a stretch with the lack of screen time and meaty material, but if anyone’s getting in it’s her, not Thompson.

Came back to say how amazing is Djawadi’s “Wicked Games” cover. Just beautiful.
Listening to it several times a day ever since the episode aired

All of this! I cannot stop listening to that piece of masterful music, Djawadi is a genius.

Episode 4 was amazing, the best of the season so far.

Solid episode. It was consistently good, but I thought the beginning was stronger than what followed. I thought Paul was the best in show with Cassel and Wood not far behind. I’m shocked by how underutilized Jeffrey Wright has been so far. He’s been a consistent presence but after the premiere, he hasn’t had any significant showcases.  Hopefully he gets more to do soon. Right now, I think only Wood and Paul should be in lead. I’m also pretty sure Gallagher Jr. is guest eligible, but I don’t expect him to make the cut. Also, looks like Harris is in the next episode, so we know that he still has a shot of making supporting.

Djawadi did fantastic work here. He’s truly the most consistently strong part of the series, just like he was on Game of Thrones. The direction was also good today, but again, it was strongest at the beginning.

Anyway, still solid stuff. Not exceptional, but entertaining.

Ed Harris appears in the promo for the next episode. There are 3 episodes left, so if he misses only one, he can be eligible for Guest Actor.

Having trouble deciding whether that was brilliant or just okay, will have to watch it again. Music selection and Djawadi’s score was particularly great, Aaron Paul was excellent too. While in past episodes it seemed like relatively little was happening, this one was so drastic it’s kind of hard to digest.
