If Amazon decided to focus on just 3 episodes of “Transparent” to promote to Emmy voters, which ones do you think those should be — and WHY? I’d love to hear your thoughts …March 6, 2015 at 2:58 am #342815
Hmm a tough one, they’re all equally good but do vary in comedy and drama. I’d say because they are gunning for comedy series, the funniest episodes:
– Pilot (101)
– The Letting Go (102)
– Moppa (104)
The Pilot obviously to set the scene, also introduce the series which is different from everything else out there. Then ‘The Letting Go’ follows on nicely and there’s a great duck chase scene with Ali, as well introducing Judith Light’s character. Skipping an episode and going straigh to ‘Moppa’ there’s Ali’s reaction to Maura comeing out to her, alongside the shopping mall trip.
I think these are the funniest episodes and allows the main cast to be shown, also having earlier episodes on a tape means a great chace of them watching the remainder of the series, and skipping 103 to head to 104 then allows one of the higlights of the show, the girls shopping trip, to be part of the tapes.March 6, 2015 at 5:19 am #342816
Episode 5: Wedge – a great focus on Maura’s children in this episode, with Ed going missing too, there is some great humour. Also, Maura gets a chance to stand up for her new self.
Episode 8: Best New Girl – it was my favourite episode of the entire season, which is no mean feat. You also get to see a lot of back story to Maura’s life and how she started off with her secret.
Episode 9: Looking Up – Maura & Shelly’s chemsitry gets a real showing here. They combine both brilliant dramatic with comedic acting and writing, that really shows off just how brilliant this show is.
It’s going to be very interesting which episodes they choose. They’ll be competing in the Comedy categories, so will need to showcase the humour within the show more so than the drama. But these three are my favourite episodes that encapsulate that mix that this show brilliantly handles.March 6, 2015 at 5:53 am #342817
I would go with Moppa, Best New Girl and Why do We Cover the Mirrors. I personally find that Maura is what makes the show, and the submissions should reflect that. I think that the first few episodes are the worst of the season, but that from episode 4 onwards, they figure out the tone, and the relationships are fully developed by that point.

Pick “Pilot,” “Moppa,” & “Why Do We Cover the Mirrors?”March 6, 2015 at 9:10 am #342820
This is very difficult to choose. Best New Girl was my favorite episode of the season. It was honestly brilliant. The next two are harder to choose, but I will say Moppa and Looking Up. These episodes really delve into the relationships of the family which is what I think this show does the best and does a great job of making captivating, funny episodes. In making their submission tapes they should definitely consider Wedge and Why Do We Cover the Mirrors? with the 6th spot going to the pilot.March 6, 2015 at 9:32 am #342821

Moppa, The Wilderness, and Why Do We Cover the Mirrors?March 6, 2015 at 12:11 pm #342823
1. “Moppa” – a truly great episode of television on all counts.
2. “Best New Girl”
3. “Wedge”March 6, 2015 at 4:03 pm #342824
I was trying to find the episode title of Tambor at the retreat. That episode is great too.March 6, 2015 at 10:46 pm #342825
Fascinating choices! TX! But at the expense of sounding greedy, I want more of you to explain WHY you made your picks! OK? TXMarch 6, 2015 at 11:05 pm #342826
“Pilot”, because its a nearly perfect way to introduce the characters and understand the tone of the series.
“Best New Girl” because it’s the most satisfactory episode arc for Tambor, and the best episode of the series by far. It tells how it all started, and how Maura really felt like herself for the first time.
“The Symbolic Exemplar” because it confirms the phrase said by Maura in the pilot, about her children’s egoism, and it also shows how difficult acceptance is for trans folks. It’s not exactly a comedic episode, but so powerful.March 7, 2015 at 5:36 am #342827
Finally someone mentioned ”The Symbolic Exapmler”!
Forget about the genres, it was the best episode to date. All characters reunite in one place-Maura’s talent show- and the wiriting was so good, the twist on the end was really powerful
And my one and only laughter throughout the whole season burst into this episode when dildo slipped off from Ali’s hands
After the 4th episode the show really found its tone and all the episodes after that were great but my other 2 choices would be:
”The Wilderness” and ”Best New Girl”
And of course Pilot would be necessary to the people who have no idea what this show aboutMarch 7, 2015 at 11:49 am #342828
Pilot—Its an easy introduction to the show.
Best New Girl–Hands down one of the best episodes. This also should probably be Tambor’s submission the flashback mixed with the heartbreak of watching his children walkout on his performance will be hard to beat. Its a shame that Whitford appeared in to many episodes otherwhise he would be the frontrunner for Guest Actor this year.
Looking Up- One of the few episodes where the actors who play Tambor’s children don’t come off as unlikable or selfish and the family comes together to try and accomplish things. This also was Judith Light’s best episode and what she should submit if nominated.
