The previous thread went over 500 so it’s locked.

I finished season 2 of The Americans the other day. Really loving it so far. It’s smart as a whip and the performances are phenomenal. It’s a shame that Russell never won, but from what I’ve seen, if it had to be only one of the leads in the long run, I’m glad it was Rhys. He’s truly exceptional. Also, I know her wins are disliked, but Martindale was win worthy in both of these first seasons. And the more I watch, the more upset I am that Emmerich and Mahendru never got nominated.

I’ve also recently started watching Ramy, What We Do in the Shadows, and Unorthdox. All great so far.

Rhys was stronger in the early seasons, then Russell dominates in 5 and 6 (she’s stronger than Rhys in season 4 as well in my opinion but that’s Wright’s season). The general quality of the ensemble is incredibly high. Martindale’s wins, as you will see in the coming seasons, are mocked due to screen time. The actual performance is good.

I needed a break from Emmy TV, so I am watching The Legend of Korra! I am a huuuuge fan of The Legeng of Aang, so it’s almost embarrassing I haven’t seen Korra yet. It’s riveting. Fresh, new and different, but still captures a lot of (but not all) of Aang’s spirit.

I was aware Martindale is barely in those winning seasons. Which is a shame cause she’s so good here.

Also, I don’t know how much how much he factors into the show in the future, but it’s pretty weird how Richard Thomas is only listed as a guest star, considering he’s a major role that’s been in almost every single episode so far.

I’m finally getting around to Watchmen. So far I’m one episode in and was supremely bored.

I haven’t sat down and binged a show quickly since season 2 of Homecoming. And I doubt I’ll do it again until Ratched premieres.

Continue till at least episode 3! You start to appreciate the first two episodes more and the whole show as a whole becomes an acting, directing and writing masterpiece in your mind (I’m not kidding I felt the same way about It’s Summer and We’re Running Out of Ice before I saw episode 3 “She Was Killed by Space Junk”).

Going between watching “Mindhunter” (season 2) and “Unbelievable.” In the middle of all that dreariness, I’m sampling some comedies. First up is “Special” (short-form comedy series; produced by Jim Parsons and nominated for 4 Emmys last year).

Started re-watching Broadchurch. I understand it was only Primetime Emmy eligible from 2015 but how the f*** did this show not get more International or Primetime Emmy nominations? The performances held up and the writing in seasons 1 and 3 are some of the best on television ever! For those who haven’t seen it you aren’t ready for David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker’s performances!

Anyway here’s what it should have been nominated for (and won) from my memory of the show as a whole (wins in bold):

    International Emmys 2014

    Drama Series
    Actress (Olivia Colman)
    Actor (David Tennant)

    Primetime Emmys 2015

    Drama Series
    Drama Actress (Olivia Colman)
    Drama Actor (David Tennant)
    Drama Supporting Actress (Jodie Whittaker)
    Drama Supporting Actress (Charlotte Rampling)
    Drama Supporting Actor (Andrew Buchan)
    Drama Supporting Actor (Arthur Darvill)
    Drama Supporting Actor (James D’Arcy)
Drama Directing – Mike Barker (Episode 8)

    Primetime Emmys 2018

    Drama Series
    Drama Actress (Olivia Colman)
    Drama Actor (David Tennant)
    Drama Supporting Actress (Jodie Whittaker)
    Drama Supporting Actress (Julie Hesmondhalgh)
    Drama Supporting Actor (Andrew Buchan)
Drama Writing – Chris Chibnall (Episode 1)

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

It truly becomes great in the second season. The supporting cast gets more fleshed out, the stakes are much higher, you start meeting more iconic characters, etc.

In my opinion, each season is better than the last, with the exception of 5a in comparison to 4, although 5b is the show at its strongest, and 5 as a whole is the best season.

“Special” was cute! I never felt short-changed by the episodes being so short lol. There might have been a time or two where I wanted some plot points fleshed out more, but other than that, this all landed beautifully. I loved the three leads. Ryan O’Connell does a good deal here, crafting a character that’s both sympathetic and aggravating at times. It’s nice seeing Ryan as a multi-faceted, flawed person trying to figure things out who just happens to also have a disability. Jessica Hecht was superb. She was probably better than something as small-scale as this show deserves, so kudos to you, kind madam! I hope that Punam Patel received a ton of future offers after this role, b/c she’s a star, plain and simple. I see some reviews reduced her to the “sassy, ethnic sidekick,” but that’s crap. Kim is the show’s beating heart. The quippy banter is just a bonus. Season 2 is a go, so I’ll look forward to seeing more episodes whenever!

Currently watching the third season of The Crown. I really miss the old cast. So far I’m only liking HBC’s performance.

Glow Up (Netflix) Season 2. It’s a Britain make-up reality competition show, and the contestants consistently produce some of the most awesome makeups I’ve seen. The show is super lean, no fat. Van Garland is one of the best and most charismatic show hosts ever! Highly recommended!
