i thought this would be fun to keep up with throughout the year and see how things change. I will update mine weekly. It’s funny because last year when Westworld ended I’m like this is AMAZING but as time went on I realized that it was just okay. It will be funny to look back and wonder why I put something so high.

Michelle Monaghan has been killing it on The Path. Best of 2017 so far.

I know it’s become unfashionable to acknowledge the brilliance of Claire Danes but she’s killing it as usual on Homeland.
Jude Law was great on The Young Pope (edit: for some reason I thought this was 2017 when it actually got released in 2016).

Tbh as of yet 2017 hasn’t been great. March/April/May we’ll start to see the truly great performances.

Haven’t seen enough to do a ranked list as it’s been a weak season so far, but I enjoyed Sneaky Pete and Santa Clarita Diet. Wouldn’t call them great shows, but they were easy binges and have potential to turn into legitimately great shows. Enjoyed the first ep of Big Little Lies and plan to keep watching every week. I watch The Path even though it’s frequently frustrating and inconsistent. I guess my favorite show of 2017 so far is This is Us, but that will change very quickly once heavy hitters like Better Call Saul, The Leftovers, Fargo, Catastrophe, Twin Peaks, The Deuce, GoT, etc start. Favorite performances so far are almost the entire cast of Sneaky Pete, Michelle Monaghan, Sterling K. Brown, Mandy Moore. This will also change though.

The Good Place season finale was a master class in quality TV. Amazing twist, the best since the Newhart series finale, and then the last 20 minutes of Michael’s Gambit tying everything together that the producers of Lost would be envious of.

Yeah it’s unbelievable how barren it is right now, and how stacked it’s gonna be starting in March and all the way through the Fall.

Almost all of the good stuff so far has been comedy which suprises me because usually comedy is barely on my top 10 but as of now it dominates.

And most the stuff has been on streaming as well. I need more real TV. BRING ON THE LEFTOVERS!!!

    Favorites of 2017 so far…

This Is Us is my favorite show of 2017 so far, with my favorites performances belonging to Sterling K. Brown and Michelle Monaghan in The Path. I’ve also being loving Superstore and think it’s completely underrated.

Usually Jane the Virgin would be at the top of my list, but I’m not too fond of recent plot developments and think the show has changed too much in tone. It hurts because it’s my favorite show usually.

Super excited for Big Little Lies, The Good Fight, and Girls.

you don’t like Jane since the twist? That’s suprising. I usually agree with you. To be fair though I havnt seen the last episode but I thought the twist episode was brilliant even though it made me want to throw my phone at the wall.

I think the death was so unnecessary, so much so that it makes me feel angry towards the show. I really wish the show could have gone another way. I am still enjoying it and think it’s super original …but with the loss of that character, we lost something really special about the series. It used to feel so whimsical and romantic, and it still does to a point, but I’m just angry at characters/couples being used as plot points.

Between Always Sunny and especially The Mick, Kaitlin Olson is crushing it. I’m enjoying The Mick quite a bit thanks largely to how outrageous and demented it is. Also, a huge surprise for me is that, three episodes in, I think Vanessa Hudgens is hilarious on Powerless. And add me to the long list of people who think One Day at a Time was fantastic and really deserves a strong campaign come Emmy time for Rita Moreno AND Justina Machado.

Then of course there’s This Is Us, which I think deserves 7 acting Emmy noms (Brown, Jones, Ventimiglia, Metz, Moore, McRaney and O’Hare).

My updated list. Not too much has changed. I moved legion down a bit. I moved Girls way up after its AMAZING second and third episode. I moved Homeland up and I added Bates Motel. I moved This is Us and How to get away with Murder up since they’ve been so good lately. And I moved up Scandal because it doesn’t deserve to be at the very bottom.

    1) Blackish
    2) One Day at a time
    3) Girls
    4) Legion
    5) Homeland
    6) Jane The Virgin
    7) Bates Motel
    8) A series of unfortunate events
    9) Big Little Lies
    10) Mom
    11) This is Us
    12) The Good Fight
    13) The Good Place
    14) How to get away with Murder
    15) Sherlock
    17) The Young Pope
    18) Santa Clarita Diet
