The Handmaid’s Tale had a bigger narrative it would’ve won Drama Series.

The Handmaid’s Tale had a bigger narrative it would’ve won Drama Series.

I would be inclined to say this but time and time again we’ve seen that narrative can often be overestimated and be a non factor at the Emmys à la Comer and Waller-Bridge beating Louis-Dreyfus.

Out of seven there would be six new which would be quite a rare occasion. The result would be same like PGA that year.

The Handmaid’s Tale had a bigger narrative it would’ve won Drama Series.

But… we can’t ignore the fact that it won a split field which helped that narrative take hold. If Big Little Lies had been in Drama, THT would never have had time to build that narrative momentum.

I do think Moss would have beaten Kidman though.

Big Little Lies was in drama at PGA.  Case closed.

(The poll does not work because it has an apostrophe.)

Big Little Lies was in drama at PGA.  Case closed.

Disagree that this closes the case because The Handmaid’s Tale gained momentum after it’s surprise win at the Emmys. Big Little Lies did not have anything to gain for the winter awards because everyone had known it was winning.

Also, BLL easily could have lost PGA partially due to the backlash surrounding the category fraud.

To me, The Handmaid’s Tale can only be regarded as clearly more likely to have won if you view things in a vacuum and pretend like because things turned out one way in one instance (like PGA) they always would have done. When in actuality, the race and The Handmaid’s Tale’s ability to even contend for the Series win in people’s minds would have been intrinsically different from the outset if Big Little Lies had been in Drama. That’s not to say the latter definitely would have won, just that it’s definitely not a closed case in favor of the former.

I honestly don’t think much would’ve changed (in terms of wins at least). Moss still would’ve won Actress. Yeah, Kidman’s the bigger name, but I honestly think Moss was unbeatable. She was THE face of THT, and her need for an Emmy was undeniable. THT was more topical than anything at the time, and it really was the true show of the moment. Series, Directing, and Writing still would’ve gone to it. Only change I’ll admit is Supporting Actress. Dern would’ve taken that one.

winning 8 Emmys as a drama (including writing) > winning 8 Emmys as a limited series

The Handmaid’s Tale was also acclaimed and topical enough to beat Big Little Lies in the combined TCA Program field.

Handmaids would’ve prevailed either way. And Moss would’ve still won.

Nicole Kidman absolutely would have won vs Moss. She was the talk of the moment back then, no performer could have beaten her.

If Moss was undeniably a lock to win then she would have won SAG as well. No reason for her to lose.

Moss’s role is 10 times showier than Kidman’s, which is what would have helped her win, I think. Just remember Moss’s submission and that van scene. That was going to get her the win regardless.

Moss would have won because Kidman would have suffered at least a minimal vote split with Witherspoon. People only overcome vote splitting when there is no obvious alternative, Moss would have been that. In the same way, Lange or Sarandon would have beaten Kidman had they not had each other to split with.

Doubt that. That show was a non-starter in terms of wins everywhere. I think it just won two Emmys for hairstyling and Makeup. That’s it. It didn’t even win at WGA where the coast was clear and lost to a fucking Lifetime movie called Flint, which even most critics didn’t bother to watch. It had a mixed reception to make the loss worse. Kidman was winning no matter what.
